Cheap amp for 2 Technics SB-CR33?

Hey guys, my friend got a pair of Technics SB-CR33 for free off Craigslist. We actually didn't know what kind of speakers they where till we picked them up and looked it up. He's a college student and is trying to set up a cheap audio set up (currently using built in laptop speakers). What we where wondering is what amp would be affordable and able to power these two? Would something like the Lepai Tripath TA2020 Class-T be able to power these? We're audio noobs so have no idea what to get tongue.gif If anyone has some cheap recommendations please let us know. After school fee's and living payments he has about 100 bucks in his pocket every two weeks. biggrin.gif Thanks in advance!

Edit: So the sticker on the back of them says 140 Watts. I'm guessing the 2 are too powerful for something like a Lepai TA2020? lol. Not sure how the whole wattage thing works here.

Edit #2: So would something like this work?

Receiver : http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR309-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004O0TRCE/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324051721&sr=1-5

Sub (Has this already): http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-12-Inch-Powered-Subwoofer/dp/B000092TT0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1324051538&sr=8-3

Would he also be able to hook up a smaller pair of bookshelves with this or should he just store those.

For that kind of budget, chances are your not going to be able to fully power those CR33's.

I might suggest trying to get a stereo or a surround receiver/amplifier off of craigslist if you can find anything. Most Yamaha/Onkyo receivers can do 50-75W per channel @ 8 ohms. It wouldn't be ideal, but they would work.

With the low budget, its gonna be kind of hard. This would be an example of a less expensive a/v receiver that would support surround/hdmi if he wanted to throw in surround sound speakers/subs/hdtv in the future... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QQXDVC

(Rated Output Power (1kHz, 2ch driven) 80W (8ohms, 0.9% THD))

Of course its really only got the basics, but it would get the job done.

If they're not fully powered by the amp will it damage the amp or will he just not get the full benefit of them? Would running them off a powered sub help at all, or does the amp still hold it back?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to learn this myself as we go redface.gif. We picked them up free so figured they where some cheap bookshelves lol. Anyone know if they're any good by chance?
