Ordered a Gigabyte HD6850, did I make a good choice?

Well I'm upgrading from a 4850 and only had $150, newegg had a $20 promo code on it, it was the cheapest 6850 on newegg due to free shipping, and since i liked the non-reference design cooler, I bought it.

I'm just curious to what other people would have bought instead of this particular brand card. should I have gone with sapphire? XFX? HIS?

That's a nice upgrade from 4850 to 6850. Some of the non-ref 6850 will not have voltage control. It will not be an issue for those who run the cards at stock default. In general there won't be any huge difference other than brands and cooler type.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, however there are some who would rather go with a diff brand.

the HIS card was $125 after rebate, however the $7.56 shipping made it $2.56 more expensive xD

I didn't get that because a 6850 can overclock to 6870 speeds for less.

but when it comes to heavy loads it would lag abit behind the 6870, atleast thats what i remember... biggrin.gif

You might be right, however I'm coming from a 4850 and a 6850 is double if not triple the performance for about 20 watts extra power consumption.

you got a good deal, Gigabyte is a good company, and one of the oldest manufacturers of motherboards.

its good that you chose that over HIS because too be honest, ive never heard of HIS before. although wiki says they also started during the 80s.

-edit.
an overclocked 6850 can match the stock 6870 speed, just in case you want more fps.
