WORST PC PARTS ever! (please list your worst purchases and why lol) - Page 22

MSI HD 6990. I went through two of them in two days and got about 3 hours use out of them total. The first one simply died about 15 minutes into using it, I hadn't even got past installing the drivers. I returned it figuring DOA's happen, got the second one that did work for a few minutes and I was able to bench it a little. Suddenly GPU 2 disappeared from it and it locked up the machine shortly afterwards and died. I gave up and bought some GTX 580's after that. Both of those cards had sealed factory boxes but clearly had been used, fingerprints all over them and the covers for the connectors were off in both cases. The first one was also set on the AWSUM BIOS out of the box.

Yea...

Spent a night sleeving my sentry 2, and though I didn't have fan sound issues... The lights on the tri-cools blink. Now, I was planning on disconnecting them anyways, but I didnt think the fan countroller would cause epileptic fits!

I would have returned it, had I not sleeved it.

Best & worst for me are the same 2 HIS 4670s(ICE-Q Turbo 1 gig) 1 for my son in law 1 for my wife $40 each
The 1 in my wife's rig is a graet lil card
The 1 for my son-in-law sat in his case for 13months (he never got a PSU so it never even powered up )
When I got his psu (another B-Day) the card is DOA (bakeing didn't help)

My fault I should have at least tried it in my wifes Would have been a simple rma
I'd like to find another deal like that

Corsair P128 SSD... Saddest excuse for a solid state. I normally like corsair very much. Had so many parts of theirs at one time. Now my system doesnt have any.

This solid state hard drive, in the 2 years of me owning it, was RMA'd 6 times. One of the times it failed was while I had finals in school with all my notes and everything on it. In the middle of me studying it decided, dude I gotta go....

Now I have a patriot inferno 240 GB and its been working good for almost a year.... Love the damn thing...

Worst PC Pqart Purchase Ever...

Has to be my First AMD 939 Build, Dual Core Processors were out, but I was too cheap and saw potential for clocks.

The Purchase of the AMD 3700+ Single Core Processor on a cheapo MSI nf4 mobo. Another Bad Purchase was the Big Tornado CPU Cooler for this bad boy, got it real Cheap for an overclocking contest, and NEVER USED IT!!! Thought I woul duse it on my Opteron Build too, NOPE, never got aroudn to it, decided the thing was soo huge and obnoxious looking, that id never get it in and fit, was afraid it would break my motherboard too, WORST PURCHASE EVER< Because it will NEVER GET USED! lol

I quickly realized that even though 3ghz was beautiful, that the Dual Cores were running game much better do the processes in background beind handled by the second core.

Initially I decided to do this because I received a Free 7800GT OC From BFG Tech, so I needed to Upgrade AMD 3200 Barton build which was running an unlocked ATI 9600xt (also free, replaced my TNT2 Ultra)

Which brings me to the greates purchase in my PC Gaming History (And another Bad Purchase)

The AMD Opteron 165, on a DFI LanParty UT SLI-DR, with Corsair TwinX Platinums (which had those really good IC's everyone wanted, D9's? I forget now what they were called) and an 8800GTS 640MB
Amazing PC, motherboard chilling at a cool 300FSB 24/7 with only the Stock Opteron Cooler (man those were good at stock Voltage)

The next Bad Purchase I made for this build? Deciding I wanted that Damn X-Fi. Sure it sounded great, better than my onboard sound at the time. But I forgot to put into consideration that when I put together my i7 build, that the motherboard just doesnt have a good location for PCI sound card, rubs up against the Graphcis card and from what i understand, could produce weird sounds (like if you Wire your Cars Aplifier wrong and runt he speaker wire with the Power Wires, making your car sound like its from the Jetsons lol)

Also my Asus Motherboard, I spent extra money on this guy for features it turns out that I couldnt give a damn about

this thing has a tiny SSD with a cheapo OS BVuilt into it... I disbaled the thing. Makes my boot time take even freakin longer, as if not long enough with all the Initializations and check
and then it goes through all the controllers, my raid etc, This mobo gives me much worse boot time than my Old DFI.

Also I originally bought copy of Vista... Un used and I dont even know where i put it lol, tried for a long time to sell it to someone for 40-50 bucks, just never happend

My combo from Newegg. Came with a 2500k, 60GB Agility 2, GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3, and 8 GB HyperX. The motherboard isn't exactly made for overclocking, and the XMP profile on the RAM sets the QPI/VTT at 1.2 V (too high for Sandy Bridge)! Moral of the story is: Don't be lazy; do the research and pick out your own parts (yes, even on your first build).

"UV 80mm fan". Not kidding, that was the only thing written on the package. It actually worked ok, but even directly plugged in via molex, barely blew enough air to feel.

I ordered the [original Asus M3A with my 5000+ BE for when the original Phenom was release, this motherboard made me dead inside.

1st was D.O.A
2nd constantly froze when I tried to install the drivers (especially the LAN drivers), NB ran to hot (surprised it didn't glow red), Cool'n'Quiet didn't work, USB headers 7 & 8 were dead.

Everything from XFX, 8800GS Alpha Dog (Fan like a turbine, constantly 100%), HD 4770 (died in 3 months)..
