P5B VS P5B-Deluxe

Thread Starter
I'm debating between the two of them.

The main difference that I see (besides more raid options?) is that the deluxe has 2xPCI-E x16 and support ATI crossfire.

However I heard the P5B is better for overclocking.

Which is better one a budget?
The prices I'm looking at (in Canadian dollars, must be picked up but no other charges) :
P5B $165
P5B-DX $235

Other quick question:
If I use a single Nvidia gpu, it'll work, correct? It's only if I want to run 2 gpu's that I won't be able to (it has to be ATI...?)

The problem is that the place where I get my stuff usually has very cheap prices (it's a wholesaler) and they have a nice selection of Nvidia but a rather measly selection of ATI cards...

single Nvidia gpu will work if you have dual cards in a crossfire board you can use hacked drivers which im doing and work fine

So basically unless I really want Crossfire or running double Nvidia GPU with hacked drivers... P5B would be a better deal?
LoL...no

P5B Deluxe is the way to go.
Where on earth did you read that it didnt OC as well as the P5B?

Without blinking an eye on a first attempt I took an e6400 to 401x8 at stock voltage.

Look here: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...stability.html for more on the P5B and certain higher FSB issues but in general the P5B should perform as well or better than the flagship P5W Deluxe and at almost $75 less.

$70 more hurts though

At least if it's a marginal difference in OCability
post #7 of 14
Indeed, that hurts and that's why I have the P5B.

Get the P5B, if the results that you get with it are not satisfactory then return it and start looking for a different brand/model in that same price range.

What I've noticed with the ASUS boards is that some non-high end models end up overclocking pretty decent, maybe you'll get one of those.

Maybe the same place he read the P5B Deluxe supports Crossfire.

The P5B Dlx has 2 PCIe slots, but the second one does not nativley run Crossfire or SLI. I have heard the hacked drivers for SLI on the 975 work on the 965 as well, but haven't seen anything about hacked Crossfire.

And yes, you can run a single NVIDIA card and it will be fine.

LoL...

Yes I am running Sli fine on this board..no big deal. The questions to ask yourself is: In the future when I have a little extra to spend do I think I might decide to add a second card? If the answer is yes then you will be purchasing a new mobo and a second card. If you believe you will not purchase a second card in the future then your fine with the P5B.

Buy the best that you can afford while keeping an eye on future upgrade paths. I have wasted some serious money this year because I didnt follow this rule. Your money your choice just think it through very carefully.

Thumper: Where did you read the P5B Deluxe does not support crossfire? My manual has a complete section on crossfire maybe its a misprinted manual.

--edit-- Never mind I just realized you were poking fun at me Oh well I deserve it for the stupid "LoL" comment...sorry guys I didnt mean to be a smart A..
