E6300/Gygabite DS3 OC help! - Page 3

YOu might only have to bump the votage .1. so if its not stable, try that seetting. remember to gradually raise the mhz, or you could lower your ability to overclock. let it burn in at 720, or somewhere around there, then 800, then 900, then 996 ( if you can even make it to 996 haha.
Dood.

I would try lowering the CPU voltage. Lots of people are getting to 3.0GHz with less than stock, some guy got 2.8 with only 1.235v(?) on XS.org.

Though raising vdimm and MCH by atleast .1v and likely .2v for vdimm is needed though. Then raise FSB by .1v or .2v when you hit a FSB wall.

If you have touched the northbridge then you know the thing is almost on fire. Though putting AS5 and a fan(jerry rig) on it may be enough for OC under 3.0GHz. You can also get some very good NB coolers for $20-30, but they can be kinda big.

Wish I knew more, but I FUBAR'd my windows install so I gotta start all over.

400 fsb stable on super pi and on burn in test pro 5.

2.8 ghz. Now I would need the fan for the chipset. I think i would also ned a Y cable for the 3 pin 40mm fan connector and my Zalman VF900..right?

Intel Thermal tool shows cpu temp at 52C. i am suprised while playing a game it only jumps to 55. ehilr my old X2 jumped to almost 65C on game and oced to only 2.4

this thing overclock amazing. even on stock cooling.
what program is best for detecting cpu chipset temps while in windows???

yea, a good cooler for the Gigabyte DS3 is the Microcool XE, it can be bought @ sidewinderpc, I'm not sure it will fit but from people that have measured the Microcool XE and the DS3's heatsink, the DS3's heatsink is larger. So I think the XE would be a good heatsink to buy.

temps shown on thermal tool, speed fan are not the same as it shows in bios.

My temp shown on bios is 40-45C
on thermal tool is steady at 54C
soeedfan 38C

since i have an almost 1GZ overclock on stock cooling i really need to know the right temp on cpu to avoid damaging it.

Unfortunatley it's Thermal Tool. If you are using the Thermal Analyst Tool (TAT) then that's correct.
