My unofficial video encode time results, i5 2500k VS AMD Pii X6

Thread Starter
I asked earlier if anyone was using the i5 2500k for video encode, got some replies and was generally trying to find out if changing from my amd 6 core pii and going to an i5 2500k was a good or bad move.

Well I just decided to go buy it and test it out. Here is what the change meant to me in my particular machine

I took a 1.68gb video of my kids and loaded it in an editor I been playing with

Times to spit out a finished mp4 file were as follows

AMD Phenom II X6 2.6GHZ oc'd to 3.1GHZ 19 minutes and 55 seconds

Intel i5 2500K 4 Core 3.3 GHZ stock 9 minutes and 27 seconds

The AMD used an asus M5A97 board
The Intel use an asus P8Z68-Vlx

Both use 4gb of ram, 500gb sata drive

Nothing else changed from the amd to intel test. Maybe its not benchmarks or scientific but for me it means a MASSIVE time reduction, almost shocked really. Thanks for all the insight thus far, I am an intel fanboy and who wouldnt be after what happened to me. I am getting ready to try out this Quick Sync I hear about.

Thanks

I know my 2500K encodes way faster than my 955 ever did despite the 700 MHz clock speed difference between what I run both chips. Unfortunately I don't have a program that can use quick sync right now.
