A4 build for my parents

Thread Starter
Hey OCN, thinking about building a computer for my parents for Christmas as their computer has pooped out on them. The budget is $200 -$250ish
Im thinking about an A-series build but will consider other options as well. (athlon w. onboard graphics could work). No games just internet and word processing and watching movies. Graphics should handle HD Movies and windows aero lol.

Here is what i got so far. Lmk what you guys think

CPU: AMD A4-3400 - $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103955

Motherboard: MSI A55M-P35 - $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130619

Ram: G.SKILL NS 4GB - $21
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231394

Hard Drive: Laptop Hard Drive I have laying around for - $0

Network Card: Rosewill - $8
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166017

Case: Something small that can fit on a bookself

so right now im at around $160 with some cash left over for a case. Am i missing anything? Any other suggestions?

I think it looks solid though not sure why you need an add on nic. why not just use onboard?

for a case, this would be really cool and will just make your budget at $80 so you will be $240

this. That case looks pretty awesome. I would recommend an Antec 100 simply because of the beautiful cable management you can do in it. For those who dont believe me, check this thread out. http://www.overclock.net/t/1061202/antec-100-not-a-bad-little-case

I'd suggest an Asus or Gigabyte board instead around the same price. MSI is junk when it comes to motherboards. rolleyes.gif

Small case that fits on a bookshelf?
Apex DM-317 at NCIXUS for $38 - great small form factor case, I own it.  The PSU included is more than enough to power this system.

While you're at it also get this 2x2GB DDR3-1600 kit at NCIX (you need an order of over $50 there to enable free shipping anyway).  It costs nearly the same as the generic DDR3-1333 CL9 kit you chose and provides big benefits on APU systems, because both the CPU and the graphics card use the RAM (Socket FM1 is very bandwidth-intensive).

I don't like the A55M-P35.  For a low end A55 motherboard, that price is terribly high.  Get this ASRock A55M-HVS board.  Same features, better price.  $52.64 after using 10% off promo code SANTA, then $5 shipping - $57.64 shipped.
