Whats the deal with LCDs and Plasmas?

I was thinking about picking up a 46 inch LED TV this month but became a bit confused when i saw some incredibly cheap Plasma TVs. Why is it that the Plasma TVs are so cheap. What's your opinions on which style i should pick up. Pros and cons anyone?

there are LED, LCD, PLasma.

Plasma are over 46" and cheaper than LED and LCD's.

Quality of plasma's can be a little worse but they suffer really bad from image burn.
In the UK if you have sky TV the bar at the bottom burns into the screen alot.

LCD these are your normal tv's good quality but after 46" get very expensive.

LED's are new. Can be very expensive especially at big dimensions, Ultra thin though and amazingly clear.

Plasma's are considered "old" technology and very few (if any) manufacturers still produce them. They've been replaced with LED TVs for various reasons, but I have yet to find an LED TV that can outperform a nice plasma in image quality.

Plasma is usually going to offer better image quality and faster response times. But it'll have the downside of using more power.

LED LCD will be lighter, easier on power....but have worse picture quality and input lag. Up to you really.

I wouldn't trade my Samsung 50" plasma in for ANYTHING. I love that thing to death.

Sounds like most people lean toward the plasma, how is the age on your plasmas and any image burn prominence?

Plasma will always have better picture, but plasmas suck up a lot of power..... Newer plasmas don't have burn in problems.... If you are that worried then make the pixels shift more often in the settings on ur tv. Another great way to prevent burn in problems is not to leave a movie paused with the tv on for 12 hours.

Another great thing about plasmas is that you can actually see in the blacks.... this helps a lot with video gaming and movies. IE: Killzone 3 some individuals hide in corners and you can easily see them on a plasma. When I played on my LCD I could barely tell if something was in the black dark corners. My friend had the same problem on his sony bravia LED tv.

I love my 50" samsung plasma. It gives off beautiful picture.

This although some LED's are pretty good in terms of picture quality. I remember Panasonic using IPS panels on theirs.

Never did really consider the power draw of my plasma.
No wonder that thing gets so hot when its been on for a while.

Any research I have done suggests plasma screens have superior picture quality.
Does it make any sense to stop producing them. Why would they not improve on power efficiency, and continue to sell them.
Manufacturing costs must be double for plasma panels, over LED, or LCD.
