help troubleshooting low 3dMark11 score with quadfire 6990 and i7-3930K

Hi.

I'm getting good performance with most benchmarks, except 3dMark11.
With the performance preset(trial), i get P10721 3DMarks. And according to the website i should be doing 14-17k with this setup and it says my score is "low" compared to similar systems frown.gif

I've got no idea what could be the issue tbh.

thanks in advance for any help on this.

Additional info: the 6990's are on stock speed with stock cooling. the ram is at stock speed and volts. the cpu is overclocked to 4.8ghz at the moment, and looks to be stable so far, 3dmark11 is running of a ssd.

Running newest drivers.

There are many things that could have caused that.

  • Throttling due to temperature and power draw limit. Set the Power Tune +20% and try again.
  • Or unstable overclock. Need a very stable balance overclock to get correct scores with Quad 6990. CPU, RAM and GPUs.
  • Other softwares in the background that cause the throttling such as Afterburner or unwanted services running in the background.
  • Etc.

Hi.

I've set the 20% power tune option in the overdrive part of catalyst, but there is no difference. I also noticed when I ran the benchmark again that it's only utilizing about 50% of each of the 4 gpu's.

I'ts not throtteling due to temperature, or afterburner.

And if it was power constrains, i would assume this would also make 3dmark vantage go slow, but other benchmarks like vantage give a perfect score. I'ts only with 3dmark11 i score badly.
(I've seen benchmarks with 1 6990 with the same score i get with 2)

I've tested the cpu quite extensivly over the past week, and I dear call it stable. Thr gpu's also perform as expected in all scenarios I've tested them in, except for 3dmark11 -.-

This will sound weird but it works, check and compare before and after the Graphics score only not overall scores.

Reset CMOS, go into BIOS to load Optimized Defaults, save and try run it again.

You have to find your balance overclock CPU, RAM and GPUs.

This was with mild 950/1375 MHz, don't remember the exact clocks.

Edit: a single HX1050 might not cut it.

amazing results there.

right now i'm at stock speed for cpu, ram and gpu. and my results are 11000-ish (only thing changed now is the 20% ekstra power for the gpu's and set to 880mhz. gpu memory at stock)

I dont think it's the power. I used a watt meter in the outlet and it showed around 850w max power drain during 3dmark11 benchmark.

Also keep in mind, that performance on other benchmarks, like 3dmark vantage are good. Havent tried Heaven yet

What symptoms are most common with low power issues? Crash or just low performance. If the latter I could try a PSU upgrade.

You are not alone.

With my 3930k at 4.2 and 4X6970, 2 weeks ago, I got a 3D Mark 11 score of 19200...

Then there was a sneaky patch for 3D Mark 11 (december 14th), strangely, only 2 weeks before the launch of the AMD 79xx serie , and now, with my 3930k at 5.1, I get a LOWER score with the same 4X6970 at the same clocks.

We all know that Nvidia is ''sponsering'' the 3D Mark 11 developpers... So, with the sneaky ''patching'' of 3D mark 11, and the last week paper launch of Keppler, Nvidia are trying to burst the AMD bubble... again... with sneaky tactics.

So I now get LOWER results with a 3930k at 5.1 then with the same 3930k at 4.2 2 weeks ago before the 3D Mark 11 patch on december 14th! rolleyes.gif

Good job Nvidia. They know those benchmarks are selling cards.... Nvidia $$$ hard at work...

I did reformat my system to be sure, and tried every BIOS settings in the Rampage IV, and there is nothing working. With my 3930k at 5.1, I always get a lower score then before the december 14th 3D Mark 11 patch with my 3930k at 4.2.

Sigh.
