Oc'ed 580 no fps boost

Asrock Extreme 4 Gen3
i5 2500k stock
evga gtx 580
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
Raidmax 850W 80 Plus Gold

Now I have tried to oc my card to 900mhz with 1.115 volts but in game fps is all the same. I have tried with BF3, Arkham city etc. This is my first system and I am really new to all this but shouldn't I receive some kind of boost after overclocking? MSI afterburner will show the new clocks when I hit apply but after 5 or so seconds they with go to 405mhz. With the overclock, In game, MSi will indicate gpu load between 80-90 temps at 70 but still no fps boost. The card will perform just at stock.

When I do try to push the clocks too far like 950mhz, I will get a black screen and driver crash. I know this might not belong here but even when I try to OC the cpu using asrock "optimized overclocks," core temp will show the new frequencies under load 4.4ghz but no boost in fps. The funny thing is when I first got this rig, when I oc'ed the cpu, it would bring the gpu performance up not any more. I am stumped and just thinking of selling this thing to someone who knows how to use it, because I sure as hell don't

In msi afterburner, enable option to show core clock in on screen display,so you can be sure your new clock is beeing applied.
Try more games. Make sure you are running them maxed out, with atleast 4x aa so stress is on gpu,not cpu

Afterburner shows that the new clocks have been applied but fraps will show no difference in frames. I am running the games maxed out at 1900x1080. I have oc'ed the cpu but have noticed that it too has no effect on games. Even as high as 4.8ghz. Could my psu be the issue

Haven't checked cpu usage but the gpu is usually between 80-99%. I don't know if thats normal. Temps for the gpu will range between 70-80. I have forced vsync off in nv control panel, still no difference. I have also cleared cmos still nothing. mad.gif

I had same problem with my 560ti. Fresh install of windows and fresh drivers fixed it.

umm..you have to OC the 2500k..ok..i skimmed a little too much..man..hope your install isn't very long-running..i'd reinstall windows.. and use the proper nvidia drivers the first time.when..uninstalling/reinstalling those drivers..it causes conflicts..things get left behind..

I'd say this. I highly doubt your 200k is maxed out with one 580. Wouldn't that mean people running sli on a stock 2500k wouldn't see any gain?
