x1900xt not playing some games

Hey, I bought a connect3d radeon x1900xt 512 mb a while back, and it plays most games with awesome everything, but the problem is, some games just don't start... the current problem is Rome:Total War, but other games like guiltygear (a japanese import) don't work either. Help? Thanks.

Believe it or not, you may have a psu problem. Does the psu restart the computer sometimes when the games crash?

The problem could one of a few things, but after my last psu problem, I am very suspicious of psu problems and had similar syptoms to what you describe. My machine would restart(at first) when my x1900xtx tried to go into 3d mode, but I could run older games and emulators with no problem.

Is it only games that need alot of processing power?

Were the games that worked older with lower polygon-counts?

Have you tested your DRAM with Memtest? Even when run at stock, one can have a poor module and Memtest86+ will inform you on your DRAM's operating stability. Download the Memtest Image "ISO" http://www.memtest.org/#downiso and burn the ISO image to a CD. Reboot with your Optical drive being the boot and let the program run a full test run.

Please fill your system specifications with a more detailed listing. It is hard to trouble shoot when one does is not advised to all of the systems peripheral components.

One of the first decisions I make when building a new system is the power behind the system. These Rosewill PSU's are not stable with regards to ripple when compared to ones such as PC Power and Cooling, FSP, Akasa, Seasonic, etc.

The X1900XT is not only a hungry demanding beast. It is a non-tolerant one with regards to power being supplied strongly linear. If your driver installation is fine and you are not overclocking the video card and processor, then you have eliminated many variables.

Well it's not rebooting, it's just that the games start with a black screen, and then immediately exit out. As for power issues, I highly doubt it, I run counterstrike:source for hours and 3dmark06 with no problem. So it's actually the older games that aren't working. I updated my drivers (Warcat 6.8), but things still aren't working (probably because I updated lol). Thoughts?
