Want to add Sata ports but

Thread Starter
I have a couple questions I need help with regarding my sig rig and wanting to add at least two Sata ports to support my new case which has a HDD Docking Bay.

Current setup has 2 x Corsair Force GT Red Sata III 60GB SSD for OS rated at 555MB/s per, benches for both in RAID 0 are less than said speed of a single drive. Could this be improved by going with a RAID card rather than the Asus Crosshair IV Formula on-board controller? They work great, but this has me slightly baffled being a noob to RAID and SSDs. Perhaps the limitation is due to the chipset? If a card would be better, is cost worth the increased performance?

I'm looking for input as to just installing a card with two Sata ports for the docking bay, (and use current RAID setup) or upgrade raid performance (if it's worth it) by upgrading to a RAID card and using existing system ports for docking bay. Suggestions on a card/solutions?

Ive said before, that RAID on SSD's is only for the extreme bragging rights, and you wont see any difference in normal use settings. Having said that, the only other benefit would be to combine the two to increase your total drive space.

This is already understood. I've read that post, but my question is whether or not to purchase a RAID card that may improve the write speed slightly (advertised speed is 555MB/s while in current setup I only see 433MB/s) or to simply say on board raid setup is good enough and just purchase a card with two Sata ports to enable use of my new cases HDD docking bay.

Have you found a raid card that supports those speeds? I have been looking for one myself.

The reason i ask is because i have a sata III pcie card with a marvel controller and its not much better than onboard sata II

You are fine with onboard RAID for your SSDs. Your SATA controller is actually limiting the speed tho. Intel ones are better.

You should be seeing these speeds. http://www.overclock.net/t/1179518/seans-ssd-buyers-guide/50#post_15975169

If you were to get a good RAID card you would need to spend ~$150+ on a good one that uses PCIe 4x. I think LSi makes a good one (link)

Corsair claims ATTO is what is used for there specs and mine are very similar to what is the link you posted. Nice, thank you!
I'll have to assume that if they are running as listed below, they are where they should be and no real benefit to going with a RAID card correct? Originally I always used HD Tune but learning as I go with the SSDs.

Here's ATTO, AS SSD and HD Tune results

Sounds like all I'm really in need of is just a few Sata ports for the docking bay. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

Looks like you had something running while HDTune was testing it.
