DDR2-1066 on DDR2-800 Mobo

Thread Starter
Once of my current sticks isn't booting up anymore, so I need some new RAM.

When I checked on the memory support list for my board, it shows "CM2X1024-8500C5".
That would be Corsair PC2-8500 ram, and I believe PC2-8500 = DDR2-1066 right?

Does this mean my board can use DDR2-1066 RAM, but it will only function at 800Mhz?

The list does not have any G.Skill ram, but if it is DDR2-800 (or 1066), is it likely to work?

go into your bios and check under RAM. see, if there is a way to set 1066.

Yeah there is a way to set it up to 1066 (System Memory Multiplier (SPD)), but the board specs say it is only compatible with 533/667/800 RAM, so I'm a bit confused.

One more thing then: should all DDR2 ram work with the board then?
Or is this something I should be careful about when selecting the ram? thumb.gif

you should be fine with any DDR2 RAM, but over 800MHz ram will run at 800. thumb.gif

The only benefit of 1066 is giving you the ability to run higher FSB, which is absolutely necessary for 45nm Core 2 series. That is a very important difference.

In terms of performance, there won't be any major difference so if you're running 400FSB or lower, it really doesn't matter for games.

this one . . .

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145203

it should run at rated speed, especially if it is in the qvl. don't see any need to update bios either.

this youe board? qvl . . .
