Upgrade to other lga775 system parts or wait and upgrade next year?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have owned my pc since 2006 (see specs in sig) and have only ever updated the graphics card from an ATI X1950XT to a GTX260. I was thinking about upgrading my motherboard and processor to a Core 2 Quad and buying another GTX260 in SLI. I'm not sure if I should upgrade to Sandy Bridge next year as surely a Core 2 Quad will be more than powerful enough for gaming. My Core 2 Duo and GTX260 really only struggles with GTA 4 on maximum settings.

What do you think?

Thank you,

Chris.

Significant investment in Core2 kit, outside of parts you can move across to a new platform is pretty worthless. Save up, and go Sandy Bridge next year.

Personally I would wait. I just bought an HD5870 and 8GB of RAM for my old C2D system but that's the most I'll spend on it. I can also use the GPU later on still. Probably best to wait and get Ivy Bridge.

Depends really.
Your obviously not gaming at high res,and if thats no problem for you then maybe just grab a q6600 and a used GTX460.
If you plan on gaming in high res then id give it more thought and maybe upgrade your platform entirely.
