AMD FX-8120 Zambezi Or Intel i7-2700K?

Thread Starter
Hi,
I need help choosing my PC configuration. I sold my i7-950 + X58 Motherboard + RAM on Ebay so that I could upgrade to the new next generation CPUs, but now I'm stuck between AMD 8 core or Intel sandybridge 2700K. Which one?

This is what I have been able to come up with so far:

My AMD configuration:

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
CPU: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi (8150 is sold out)
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0

Or.....

My Intel Configuration:

CPU: Intel i7-2700K
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0

Which one??? I need help, and I really want the ASUS Crosshair but the i7-2700K seems really good. I do heavy gaming, and internet browsing, as well as create levels in the Crysis Editor.

Thanks!

The amd 8core is slower than your old cpu. the 2700k is alot quicker. Easy choice really

Go for the 2700k, or go for a 2600k and upgrade the board to the Extreme4 gen3.

Bulldozer right now is pointless as an upgrade for anyone with anything c2Q or better.

lol man a true "upgrade" would be X79 i7 3930K. 2600K will work fine though. Just go for a 2600K and call it a day.

Nevermind, I found an intel i7-2700K for $300 + $20 for shipping on ebay (it was $310 but I made an offer for $300 and it was accepted)
I may be paying $20 for shipping but the i7-2600K is $320 on newegg so I might as well get the better one since it's the same price. My next question is, will this power supply be good for my configuration:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681770302
(my system specs in signature)

and is this a good motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157264

I will also buy this heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 and installing a second fan for a push/pull configuration so that I could overclock higher.

Thanks!

they aren't even close to the same price....

of course the 2700 is going to be faster when it costs over $100 more

2600k or go with a Newer Socket 2011 CPU ! Because the gap between the 960 and the 2600k ISNT that big so if you really want a performance improvement go with a Socket 2011 cpu ! smile.gif
