New build for around 1000 dollars.

Hey, trying to help my brother build or possibly just upgrade his old computer for gaming. He wants to be able to play BF3 at good framerates. it doesn't have to be able to play bf3 on ultra settings, just like med-high comfortably. Is the 2500k still the best value/performance right now? He might be able to reuse his old case and psu.

This is his build so far that he wants to upgrade:

9800 gt

e6750

CM 750W

CM 690

XFX 680i

4gb ddr2 ram

What do you think would be a good upgrade path or whole build in general? Thanks!

Definitely get a new rig its not worth it to upgrade that. You could probably reuse the case, psu and HDD. with that in mind I would get:
CPU:
2500K(probably cheaper in other stores)
Motherboard:
ASUS Sabertooth
GPU: for which ever company you prefer(AMD one has better benches)
-NVIDIA
EVGA GTX 560ti
-AMD
MSI Twin Frozr III 6950
RAM:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Total:
$749.96(AMD GPU)
$789.96(NVIDIA GPU)

Extras:
Cooling:(if your case fits it)
Coolermaster hyper 212+ $29.99
Soundcard:
Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D $99.99
HDD: (if you need one)
Western Digital 500GB $189.99
Case: (if you need one)
NZXT GAMMA $39.99
PSU: (if you need one)
Antec EarthWatts 430W $59.99

Thanks for your input guys his case doesn't have very good airflow, there is like 1 fan on the front of the case and 1 intake on the side, and 1 outtake on the back. Maybe I should throw a few more exhaust fans on the top?

Thermalright makes really nice fans. It just depends if you want them really quiet and what size your case takes.
140mm
140mm quiet
120mm
120mm quiet

The site doean't really link a place to buy them so just Google their names.

Could you link your case so I can see what you need? biggrin.gif
