I really want to learn programming on my own.

I don't really want to get into 3D models just 2D stuff would be great

what are the most common languages to learn? I dont want to learn something that may get outdated.

just looking for somewhere to start

Python, VB and Ruby are pretty common programming languages. I wouldn't worry about the language being outdated, C++ is over 28 years old and is still in use.
