New build, temps all over the place, too much TIM?? - Page 2

With HDT coolers like the 212+, it's reported that applying TIM like so yields better results, you may have to try a couple times before you get it 'perfect' or 'good enough'.

Also if you haven't started yet it's really good to clean off the CPU and heatsink using isopropyl alcohol 90% or more and use coffee filters. Coffee filters give off no fuzz or dust at all, i've tried many things and coffee filters are by far the best thing.

edit: Also once you put the heatsink on the CPU do not lift it off at all, it can create air bubbles.

here it is, I know you can't say 100% this is right, but does it look close?
edit: do i need to spread it on the cpu or let the hsf pressure spread it when i put it on?

That looks to be the go on the HS, you may not even need the dollop on the CPU...

Give it a go and see how she flies smile.gif

well, i decided to actually remove about half or less of the dot on the cpu, put everything back together and so no drop in (idle) temps! If anything my temps have gone up maybe a degree or so!!! before i take this apart again, i think i'll try a different fan just to see what happens.....

I swapped out the stock hsf fan for a Yate Loon D12SH-12 fan and did notice a slight drop in temps, maybe 1 or 2 degrees but i still think i need to reapply TIM one more time!

I still would like to know why I'm getting about a 10C hotter temp in Hardware Mon. Pro than with Realtemp(Bios shows about the same too)??
Also, cpuid and Realtemp says i'm running at 3.7Ghz. and what about the voltage???? but mobo setting are basically default settings!

you can try again, as some poeple have mentioned it may take 3-4 gos to get it right. anyway, i see you have high heat spreaders on your RAM!! are you able to instal a second fan and use a push pull configuration? that will help as well thumb.gif
