12.04 uses the Unity interface as opposed to the Gnome interface, and I'm pretty sure Unity and FAH don't play nice.

had a spare CPU, mobo, PSU amd some RAM laying around, but no HDD, so I thought I'd try this to fold without an HDD.

Everything seems to be working, but I am not getting upload success and get the following errors:

EDIT: Got a new USB drive and everything is working perfect. So either my USB drive was corrupt, or 2GB is NOT enough for this! (using 8 gig now)

No, you do not need a HDD. It runs off of an USB flash drive.
