FX 8150 vs i7 3930k in multi gpu config. Benchs READY! link

Poll Results: Should I compare the fx-8150 vs i7 3920k? 6 cores vs 8 cores?

  • 65% (90)
YES! We need unbiased information. Let's see this BD + 6990. We want more user content, and not only external links for info.
  • 4% (6)
No! Not interested really. We know the i7 is more expensive... it's not fair.
  • 5% (8)
No! It will become, as someone said, a thread about monkeys throwing poop at each other.
  • 24% (33)
Yes! It WILL be monkeys throwing poop at each other, but what the heck, go on!

Since most of you voted yes:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1187898/fx-8150-in-multi-gpu-config-a-test-against-6-core-sb-e-how-does-our-bulldozer-fare-benchs-included-have-fun#post_15998052

That was a lot of hard work, ugh

Pax,
Alex.

So, bear with me.

We've seen a lot of comparinsons, benches etc.

I've always heard about how my fx-8150 is bottlenecking my 6990 and so and so. But what bugs me is, people say it out of the blue, or because they read in some review... I've never seen a forum USER do the tests himself.

Come on, we are in a forum about computers. We should be able to produce some of our own results, no? Maybe it's the academic in me, but I want a certified, OCN club source of ionformation. Why not?

So... I've made a lot of benches in this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1185039/the-1st-win7-scheduler-benchs-are-in-x264hd-winrar-7zip-file-link-ingame-batman-crysis-1/260#post_15978689

My idea is: let's see how much (if any) of a bottleneck the fx-8150 is. Not from external sources, but from our experience!

I'll keep my savegames in steam untouched. I'll run the very same benches and compare cpu and gpu usage, and FPS.

If the fx 8150 is bottlenecking the 6990 at 4.6ghz, let's find out, and how much. If my sb-e is underperforming, let's find it out. I don't want to bash my BD nor my SB-E, but let's put our cards on the table...

Tech forums should be more information, less emotion, imo.

Reasons why I think it would be cool:

1) Exactly the same system. In 2 days, I'm taking out CPU and MOBO and replacing with SB-E. EVERY other piece will remain the same. The only variables will be the CPU and MoBo.

2) It's something we made ourselves.

So, vote... Yay or nay?

EDIT: I'll do it. Already taking some pics with msi afterburner.

Honestly, i'll trust legitimate reviews over 90% of forum users... Most top end review sites have no reason to jeopardize their reputation with altered results. Obviously there are some exceptions, (caugh *HH* caugh)....

Anyways, we're just going to see what we already know. But, i'm for it for the hell of it.

I'm not saying it will be better. It won't. I'm not a professional, I don't have equipment nor experience.

All that I'm thinking is: why not we make some of our own tests? I just like the idea. But if there's no interest, I'll drop it biggrin.gif

Definitely. I never said that you said it would. Just pointing out some facts...

I'm looking forward to your results. Re-installing OS, yes?

You are getting gpu usage in the 50% range, or lower...

And your 6990 wasn't even overclocked.

It doesn't really matter though, 30 fps is playable to people who have no other option, for the rest of us we wonder why our computer is performing so terribly.

No matter what the results and conclusions are some folks will find fault so if you enjoy lengthy debates go for it.

What I see is a lot of happy Bulldozer owners and that pretty much speaks for itself. It doesn't matter if an Intel CPU is faster, what matters is if the person spending the money is happy with their purchase.

...

I don't get it.

My intention was to do it for the sake of information. Why is everything so personal here?
If you have a 8150, wouldn't you want to know? I would. It wouldn't be personal nor anything.
