Help buying a family PC?

What's happening every one? I hope you're having a great time. smile.gif

I have build a gaming rig lately. It's a very good PC for gaming. So now I want to build a new PC but not for gaming. It's for my family to use. Basically it is for running Google Earth, Youtube, Facebook, loading photos on the net, surfing the internet with opening many tabs, word processing, and games like Plants and Zombies (LOL!).

I know a lot about gaming PC and have read a lot about them but I don't know what components should I buy for this one because I don't want to spend too much on, for eg, a processor that i don't use for gaming. But also I don't want to buy a very slow PC. My current family pc is run with a 2.4GHZ Celeron cpu, no graphics card, 1GB ram, and I could not upgrade that much on the pc because it's mobo is very outdated already.

I prefer AMD cpu, btw. To save some money. Also, it's gonna be a family PC and not mostly for gaming, I'm not gonna overclock on this PC.

I think what we need is:
A dual-core processor? 2.8Ghz and above?
A 2GB RAM?
An integrated graphics card on the motherboard?
400W PSU?
500GB HDD?

Or is this too much?

If it was me I'd do a 955 processor, integrated graphics, 2 gigs of ram (but honestly you can get 4 gigs for around $30 anyway why not?) 400 watt psu seems fine and the hdd size is probably on the large side for a family pc. You could probably go 250 and be fine. Just my opinion, I don't know your family and what they do on the pc.

A 955? Overkill!

OP, what's your budget for the entire build?

My new rig is a 955 X4. HAHA. Yeah, It's a good processor but I think it's too much for just a little gaming.
