Dell U2212HM.

Hey OCN!

I have been sleepless for the last few nights about what monitor I should get for my killer FPS gaming build.

After reading many reviews, threads and posts, I have finally found a monitor that fits my needs and is highly regarded.

Behold, the recently announced Dell U2212HM. I have also seen the U2312HM which is good, but the contrast and colours on it aren't as good as the U2212HM.

I would also prefer the smaller monitor because of more DPI (dots per inch). I am not really willing to go larger than 23" or smaller than 21.5" for a gaming monitor.

Anyway, I just wanted to make sure this monitor is a good purchase considering I mainly play FPS games (I need a monitor that can output the power of my GTX 580).

Here in Australia, the monitor is $249 on the Dell website. Now I have a coupon that reduces this monitor by 15%, the final price being $211.65. This coupon expires on the 31st of December.

Should I take the plunge and buy this monitor? Will it live up to my expectations? Is there a better monitor for around the $200 price range?

Also for FPS gaming, would the input lag on the U2212HM be noticeably slower than the U2312HM? I want great images but fast gameplay and don't want to get a TN panel monitor.

Here is the reviews of both the U2212HM and the U2312HM.

Thanks!

Honestly I don't see any difference between the two besides the U2312HM having a different outside casing. I think the only reason they have the U2312HM is because they need to update all their products. Also is that a personal coupon for 15% off or can anyone use it? because I'm picking the U2312HM up next week.

I read a review about it and the new model is supposed to have W-LED backlighting and a much faster input lag (0.6ms!). Also it mentioned that the backlight bleeding on this one is reduced a lot.

Sorry but since I am not on my laptop right now I can't give you the coupon but can tell you it only works for Australia.

So does anyone else have any input or comments about the monitor? What makes this one so much better then the old revision?

Why not? I don't really want a TN panel monitor because of the colour and would rather have a quality IPS monitor.

Thanks!

I really like U2311H, however, its rather hard to get by now in most locations as it was replaced by U2312HM as far as I'm aware. I have three U2311H's and I would say they work fine in FPS games I play sometimes (for example, Unreal 3 and Team Fortress 2) - for me an IPS (or in this particular case e-IPS) was a must as I'm running mine in portrait mode (3x1 portrait Eyefinity) - where larger viewing angles are a must.

I have looked at U2312HM in the store few times and I must say that for my eyes 2311H has seemed a bit better - but then again the ones in stores are probably not calibrated so that might explain the difference. As I was unable to find U2311H for sale in Estonia I recently ordered two U2312HM monitors and hopefully can share more detailed information within a week or so - depending on when these arrive with x-mas coming and all that.

I plan to do 5x1 portrait Eyefinity with these using the 2312HM ones as the side monitors. As a positive factor I would point out that U2312HM should consume less power and back light should last somewhat longer than the cold cathodes do. Then again I'm not sure if 5 years vs 10 years is that relevant for a monitor back light life expectancy.

Thanks for that. I have actually thought it over and am now wanting the U2212HM. I will edit my original post.

You could be a little less broad and back up your statement. What you said is not very helpful if its just your opinion.

I dunno, I love the 3 U2312HM's I just bought for Eyefinity. Great colors, contrast, viewing angles, quality craftmanship, and overall, just great monitors.

Good luck!

Good luck!

Thanks for that guys, I have just edited my post and am actually now looking at the smaller U2212HM.

The main question I want to know is if the U2212HM will have considerable and low response time for gaming. The main thing I want to know is if the U2212HM is optimal for gaming with games like BF3 and MW3.

Thanks all for your input.
