Mna they are seriously SLAUGHTERING AMD with this price/performance value. I didn't think IB was going to be that much better than SB, and expected the 2500k equivalent (more or less equivalent) model to be $100 more than the 2500k. All that aside, I think I'm sticking with my free 2500k. biggrin.gif I'd rather throw $330 towards a second 570.

Why bother getting a different CPU that will be even more under utilized?

because its a dual core. i dont have SATA 3 and i want to run mulipul GPUs lol

I get what you're saying, that the gains will be small (relatively), but if that's supposed to be some subtle suggestiveness of LGA 2011 as a superior option, what if the user has no need for that many cores/threads? There is no clear answer as to which platform is "superior" as it depends on the given application/use. For those who take advantage of it's collective power, yes, LGA 2011 hex core CPUs will be a far better choice, but most don't need that many cores/threads, so this is a better buy. While this CPU change could be argued as needless, this is OCN, and a change to LGA 2011 for more cores, more power consumption, more work, more cost, and no increase in IPC is far more fruitless for most people.

Personally, I'm likely moving to one at one point. I was planning to go with Ivy Bridge anyway from my Core 2 Duo E8600, but I won this CPU here on OCN so I made the change ahead of time. My Core i5 2500K is a bit of a dog too. It runs hot and I can't even go with 4.5GHz as a result. I'm going to watch results first, but if this is anything like Conroe to Wolfdale (I'm highly doubting it will be near as good, but if it's even half that), then I'll probably move over. I moved from a Core 2 DUo E8400 to a Core 2 Duo E8600 so this can't be any more fruitless (that move was actually done since I needed another LGA 775 CPU anyway, so I grabbed the latter to use the former for the one that needed it). After selling the current CPU, it's like half the cost, plus or minus, and it's a drop in install. Compare that with a higher price with selling the CPU and board for a LGA 2011 CPU and board plus the extra work and that would be more of a waste for most users, myself being one.

Depending on how much the 2500k's drop in price or how much people sell them for on here I might pick myself up one or even a 2600k. smile.gif
