Thread Starter
My friend came to me with a broken external WD Simple save Hard drive. I took apart the enclosure and found a small laptop HDD. I tried hooking it up to my computer through sata but cant get access to the files on it. I Went into device manager and it was recognized, but if i double click it and go under volumes tab it shows up as not initialized under the status and not applicable under Partitions. its WD3200BEVT

Your first step should be initializing the drive, which you have to do. Right-click the drive's icon on the left of Disk Management and initialize it. Then you should be able to see the partition.

Unallocated means it can't read any partitions on the drive; you're not going to be able to recover any data here.

In the future if you have a western digital drive in a enclosure don't take it out of the case! usually wd drives have a 3 year waranty or so and can be rma'd but once you remove it from the enclosure you void the warranty frown.gif
