No updates? Have the parts arrived? Have you ordered any?

CASE: Silverstone FT02
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3
CPU: Intel i5-2500k
COOLER: Noctua DH-14
RAM: Ripjaws 8GB DDR3 1600 (2x4GB)
GPU: Evga GTX 580 Superclocked $529
PSU: Corsair HX750
Constructive criticism is welcome.
Questions:
1) Is buying seperate thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5 really worth it?
I've seen good reviews from Noctua's included thermal paste.
2) What power rating do I need for the PSU if I don't intend to go for SLI setups in the near future due to micro-stuttering and solely want to overclock the PSU and GPU?
3) Is there any CPU cooler with the same performance & noise level as the Noctua DH-14 but with better looks?
Thanks & regards,

I don't see the benefit of the ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 over the PRO version, at lest not $60 worth...

Reasons for picking this case:
1) Some of the very best reviews I've seen after hours of research, especially cooling performance and noise level
2) I want high overclockability without water cooling
3) At my age I actually consider aggressive looking cases as a negative
4) Money is not a problem
If you know of any other case that meets these criterias please don't hesitate to suggest it. Thanks.

Why not go with one of the "closed loop" water solutions? None of the worries of the old water setups, and leaves so much more room in the case. Plus you not only move the cpu heat away from your NB, SB and video card, you clear a nice clean path for airflow across their heatsinks... I've only got a H60 here but I don't see myself ever going back to a fan & heatsink setup..

Honestly, if I were you I would do what I did.

Grab a GTX480 and overclock it for the time being...similar performance to a GTX580 at half the price. Then when Kepler comes out, if the reviews/benches look good, grab one of those.

Huh?
Can you run BF3 with EVERY setting "maxed out" and get at least 55fps (most of the time over 60fps) & NO stuttering?
Just curious.

Well the 7970 dips into the 40s in BF3 at 1920x1200 so your probably looking at either sli 470s oc'd, sli 480s, sli 580s, cf 6950s, cf 6970s, or cf 7970. With that budget you might as well get a 7970. I think in some reviews a 7970 oc'd gets over 60fps constant. But I don't think they use multiplayer as a bench. And multiplayer on large maps seems to get low 40s regardless what you run, lol...probably a problem on the coding aspect. BF3 really is a poorly coded game and the net code really makes it bad sometimes in multiplayer regardless of the hardware you have, so I wouldn't spend too much on graphics cards just for that game. I mean if I were you I'd get a 480 for cheap like someone here said. It should run smooth on Ultra. Even my 470 at stock settings runs bf3 smooth on ultra so just a fyi. I think we need to remind ourselves that these games are console ports.

Thread Starter
I ordered the PSU since my old one was dead.
I've been putting any further purchases on hold for now until I move apartments next month.

I'm starting to think that my 3.6 Ghz OC'd Q6600 might do the trick for most games, inclusive BF3.
Thus I might just postpone a complete new build and just grab a nice card for now, probably a HD 7970 if I pull the trigger soon.

I'm starting to think about just waiting until Kepler comes out and building a new rig then.
Have any dates been published?

"Closed loop" water solutions aren't necessarily out of the picture.
However I really love the Silverstone FT02 case and from what I've been reading it is far from ideal for water cooling.
I might be able to fit an H60 in there.

off topic answer.. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The reason I always write it down, is because some times we confuse our typing, lots of grammar and verbal mistakes and people some times react to that, without asking if that's a "disability" or not. But you should be aware in your poor little life that dialectics are much more intelligent and charismatic people, you can make some research about it.

So if I had to choose between the who I am now, or you... I would gladly jump into a bus and die, than being you.. And I am very very happy that I am dyslectic. Because I have more reasons to like it, than dislike it and feel bad or minor..

cheers..

as for the graphics card, I agree with the guy who said to buy something cheaper. Doesnt matter if you buy a gtx480 or 560, or whatever fits you and is cheap. Because new graphic cards coming up and from the very recent reviews I ve seen, they are very promising! (eg 7970)

You need to take that joke in the spirit it was offered. For one, we are all dyslectic to some extent, it's a natural conflict between the left and right brain (you have no idea how many times most of us have to reread/retype our post before we submit them. For two we all have our issues and problems. You can cry about them or try and laugh about them. I choose the later. And for three, that particular joke came from a friend of mine in high school who was on medication for it. The joke came about because the medication had depression side effects and he fell out of the back of a moving school bus. He was mostly ok (scrapes n bruises, you know.. moving bus) but everybody freaked out, and his parents were going to send him to a some sort of looney bin for psychiatric counseling. Until we started cracking jokes about it. The first one was something about how he thought he was locking it.. and so on...lol.. ahh good times,.. you had to be there I guess. Point is, while they now thought that I was as crazy as him(or vice versa), they no longer thought he was suicidal.

But I apologize for any stress cause by the perceived insult. It was not meant to do anything but make you laugh...

Nope, neither can any single card...
