Headphones for $100 or less.

Well I am looking for a decent pair of headphones to purchase for music/gaming. The gaming aspect is not nearly as important as the music. My budget is around $100, but cheaper is always better. I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD428's, and I find them pretty respectable. However, they can be a bit muddied at times and they fall off my head easily. I have done a light amount of research and have found the Shure SRH440's ($95 on Amazon) to have favorable reviews, as well as the ever-popular Sennheiser HD PRO 280 ($75 on Amazon). What are your thoughts on these? The brand will not make-or-break the deal, but I really do enjoy Sennheiser. I know there are a lot of suggestions for the AD-700's, but I quite simply do not like the way they look and would prefer not to get them.

I think a great pair of headphones to show you what I am looking for would be the Klipsch Image One's. I tried them at Best Buy and I loved the sound they produced. However, they were extremely uncomfortable so I cannot wear them.

Here is what I am looking for:
-Sound Clarity
-Comfortable for long sessions of music/gaming
-Non-coiled cord preferred (even though the two headphones I mentioned above are coiled, but the Shure is detachable)
-Over-the-ear design

Here is what I do not want:
-Too much bass (rich bass is nice, but not over-powering like Dre Beats)
-Flashy designs
-Used (I want to buy new)
-Earbud/on-ear design

I can possibly stretch the budget if need-be, but I would really like to keep it under $100 smile.gif

Ultrasone 580s are a bit excessive in bass, but a lot of people find them enjoyable.

My recommendation would be the Samson SR850s though. Nice bass, not overpowering. Good clarity, good sound stage for gaming. Most people find them comfortable, non-coiled, not flashy and you can buy them new for way under your budget. Get yourself a sound card too if you don't have one like a Xonar DX.

I just bought some JVC RX900s with the plans to make a few mods. Apparently these headsets have got some great reviews so much I bought my dad a set too!

Some prefer the RX700 because of the mid and highs being more balanced but the RX700 lacks comfort. With the RX900s you can make a few minor mods and they will perform equal if not better than the RX700 yet be easy on the ears. At under $70 these seem to be a good buy.

Do yourself a favor and check out the Grado-60i
They're only $80 and the best under $100 headphones out there.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone smile.gif It's nice too see that all of those are well-within my price range. How would any of those suggested compare to the HD 280's? I only ask because I see sooooo many people with the 280's. And does anyone have any other suggestions? I want to make sure I cover all options before I buy anything so I don't have any regrets smile.gif
