Hi guys,

So some of you may remember I won this chip in one of OCN's great benchin compos a number of months ago?

Well last week I finally got round to having a bit of a play with it, not only that though this was my first proper play with a x58 setup and my very first time using LN2 biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Been my first time with LN2 (and indeed this setup) I made a number of mistakes, some of which were really stupid such as not spending any time learning the setup before hand (although I did test it was all working under water cooling months ago when I first bought the other bits needed (tripple channel ram ect)and managed a little bit of overclock at that time) and not setting up clean o.s.for best results possible, but its all good as for me it was all part of the learning experience.

Anyhow, I figured it is only fare that I share my fun with you all as it wouldnt of been possible if I didnt win the chip here smile.gif

First up Ive loaded some photos into this album here>>

http://www.overclock.net/gallery/album/view/id/599775/user_id/110871#page=0&sort=display_order

For anyone interested in looking.

The best overclock I managed on the day was just over 5Ghz though Im sure there is more in the chip and this setup if more time was spent with it.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2138942

390

Most of the scores I manged for hwbot were pretty dismal due to dirty o.s. and rushing about rather than spending time tweaking for each bench but I did managed the odd 2nd place within the w3530 catogory, namely wprime1024 and HpiFast:

375

375

The one gold I managed was with UC Bench 2011, which wasnt too hard seems there was only one other entry in it tongue.gif

375

The rest of the w3530 results on HWbot can be found here>>

http://www.hwbot.org/hardware/processor/xeon_w3530/

and I gota say massive respect to NoGuru as he is holding most the golds here in the catogory, but it wont be for much longer bud biggrin.gif

Also massive Thankyou to OCN and all the staff for this great chip and all that you do here smile.gif

Bout time you knocked the dust off that thing. Looks good for your first LN2 run.

Try not to take to many of my cups or I will have to buy another W3530 biggrin.gif

As Wump mentioned, 1.6-1.7V is usually a nice range. My 920 wanted closer to 1.8V though... annoying little chip!

If the board you're using has QPI Slow Mode, give that a whirl. It'll help you get much higher on the BCLK than without it. It's no good for 3D though.

Thankyou Cl3p, I didnt attempt Spi32m this time because with a dirty untweaked os I figured there

was just no point! But it is one of my favorite benches so Im hoping to see good numbers next time

from it, at least if the ram is up to the task that is biggrin.gif

Cheers guys, I was going by NoGuru's results and most of the others in this category who seem to using in the 1.5's vcore for up to 5.2Ghz and more, but next time I will be pushing it alot harder and certainly use 1.6 -1.7v if needs be biggrin.gif

I wondered what that slow mode setting is for so thanks Bass I'll give that a try thumb.gif

Yep, QPI slow mode will allow much more BCLK (my limit without slow mode is around ~230 whereas it's close to 265 or so with slow mode). Good luck with the benching thumb.gif
