127 gig?

Thread Starter
I have a 250 gig wd harddrive and service pack 1 and windows is still telling me that it's 127 gigs. Is there something else that I have to do after I install sp1? The thing I use to do is install partition magic and partition the space that windows wasn't seeing and then combine partitions but I want to know if there is an easier way.

Win SP1 cannot detect HDs bigger than 130GBs or... 127GB. Get it in another computer and format it using the other computer and then install Win on it.

Or... you can get a copy of Win with SP2 slipstreamed on it.

No need to get smart. Sp1 is suppost to correct the issue with windows only being able to reconize a drive bigger then 127gigs.

Well, SP2 is also much better than SP1. Also, theres a nasty thing in SP2 which reverts your DMA drives to PIO. And I need to get the hotfix which is only available through calling M$. Go figure.

Don't bother with SP1 if your copy of Windows doesn't have it, go straight for the SP2.

Also, since that the 250GB is only being recognize as 127GB, the rest of the drive should be as unformatted drive, I'd say go to computer management window and then Disk management and you'll see the rest of the drive unpartitioned, create one and store all the stuff that you want there.

I think you have to install WinSP2 from the start to actually for the OS to recognize the full size of the drive. I think.
