Thought it would be faster

Thread Starter
I use a lot of demanding applications like photo editing, web design etc... So I upgraded my system to a
AMD Athlon 3400+
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Mobo
Dual DVI NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
2gig Kingston HyperX
Mad Dog 650w Power Supply
Western Digital 250gig SATA
Koolance Case Water Cool

The system I had was already pretty decent and I expected this one to be faster but it seems I either have a problem or what I'm doing is just really extreme.
I just completed scanning a lot of full page pictures into Photoshop at 400 dpi each and it took a few minutes to do each one. I really need to figure out what's wrong with my system or how to overclock it to a point where it can at least handle scanning pictures.
My motherboard came with AI-Booster, but I don't want to touch anything before I know what I'm doing.
Can someone please help me with this. I would really appreciate it. I've spent so much time and money on this system and now I'm really disappointed and frustrated with it.

I CAN HELP lol i have that exact same mobo. go into your bios go to advance, the go into jumper free settings the change the top value to manual. go then and change you FSB to 2xx(like 290 somthing play around with it.) then go down to your multiplier and change it to the max value and voila you are done.
EDITnce you develop a higher understanding of the bios/overclocking, you can then take it farther. I dont doubt you could reach 2.8

No offense meant to you, but an Athlon 3400+ isn't much of a processor. It's not that great of a workstation. I don't know what else to tell you.

The speed at which you scan images is not based on your computers speed, but on the speed of your scanner and the connection to your scanner. USB 2.0 (which is what I asume your scanner is using) runs at 480 MB/s, so if you are scanning a file that is 1160 MB, it will take 2 seconds to tansfer plus how ever long it takes your scanner to scan the image.

As for overclocking your CPU, you want to do it in the BIOS, as people have said, not with AI Booster. The BIOS will give you a more reliable overclock. My advice is read the guids in the FAQ section and ask a LOT of questions!

11 x 217 = 2378 mhz. Set it to 236 and you have 2,6 ghz.

I believe he has the same 3400+ as me, where a 217 FSb times his 12X multi gives him 2.6
