Case just for radiators?

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I am building an X79 rig in an old Power Mac G5 case. However, space is going to be very tight with the motherboard, HDDs, PSU and everything else filling the case.

Does some sort of case exists that could hold your radiator, reservoir, pump and fans, and nothing else? Or would I have to build one?

Thanks.

I think he meant a case specifically for housing a radiator/pump/fans/etc. only.

However to answer the question, I don't think this is something that is sold in mass quantities, but you may be able to have someone build you one or you could build one yourself (I knowit's not really the answer you're looking for, sorry).

What size rads and how many? Which res will you be using/ which pump? Tubing size? Budget? Do you want something hidden, or something that will compliment the style of the G5?

Something like this:

http://www.dangerden.com/store/external-3-x-360-radiator-and_pump-case.html

or this:

http://www.caselabs-store.com/extended-pedestal-assembly/

could work well depending on how many radiators and what size. A simple box would be easy to build and with some sound dampening lining could cut down on noise quite a bit.

OK. Thank you so much for all your prompt replies.

I would prefer something that fitted with the nice G5 look but am not overly fussy. The key aim is to move the WCing to a separate space to clean up the G5 case for easy "upgradeability" (if that's an acceptable word...). When the NVIDIA 7xx series comes out I'll probably WC the card with another rad so I guess being able to add more would be nice.

How hard would it be to craft a reasonably nice case just for one 360mm rad, a pump, a res and six 120mm fans, three on both top and bottom?

Thanks.

You could just externally mount the radiator. I've had 240 and 360 rads mounted sideways on my rear exhaust fan grill. I've also cut holes in the left side panel you don't typically remove and mounted a radiator there. Nice in the winter time since i could put the fans blowing at me.

I did a job for a guy once were I used two old desktop style cases screw together where the hardware was in the bottom and the rad and res were in the top. The whole thing would move as one unit. I've been meaning to build one with two identical tower cases side by side, but I don't really use cases for any of my own rigs anymore and I haven't had any one wanting a water cooled rig in a while.

That sounds like a good idea. If I mounted it to the back, that could work. Do you think it would disrupt airflow out of the case, however?
