I found somthing WAY better then AS5

I feel I should share what I found. Coollaboratory's "Liquid Pro" in my own use my cpu's temp dropped a lot. Anyway the reason for this post is the difference in thermal conductivity. Correct me if I'm wrong but AS5 is rated at 9.1 W(M*K) Liquid pro kills that being rated at 82 W(M*K). It has it's draw backs being that it can't be used on aluminum and it conducts electricity.

Has anyone else heard of or used this besides me?

This is very conductive material. Keep in mind that this material has a chemical reaction with aluminum and will melt the aluminum away. Use on copper is fine though but remember that many heatsinks have aluminum straps holding the heatsink to the base that is copper. The reaction can be months later when the material slowly makes its way to the strap.

I knew this before I tried the liquid pro and I had also read the stories about its disintegrating aluminum in a matter of minutes. The heatsink I am using though has no aluminum on it at all. Are you using Liquid Pro?

No. I am fine with Arctic Silver on my Big Typhoon. The problem is that many heatsink/fan assemblies have aluminum and some "Pure Copper" ones also have some aluminum in the cast.

It's not worth the chance for me and this is why I posted the warning. That Zalman is a Pure Copper heatsink but the straps are not. Some might see that Pure Copper designation (and it is on other sinks as well) and be tempted to try this product with disasterous results. All you say is that it can't be used with aluminum. I believe a Stronger warning is necessary. Forewarned is forearmed.

You could use it, it's not the base of the heatsink that's aluminum but the fins. Though as Ropey said there is a risk of getting it on the fins or that the "pure copper" base isn't really pure copper.

Hmm..this is very intuiging. Would I be able to use this with my Apogee waterblock and Sandy with IHS removed? Would it screw up the bare chips? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't do anything to the apogee as that looks like pure copper..

It only has issues with aluminum from everything I have read on it. On bare chips it should be fine they aren't aluminum after all. I'd say if your interested look into it a bit yourself.

Here's the company's site that makes Liquid Pro.
