I found somthing WAY better then AS5 - Page 2

I've always wanted to try this...

1) Remove IHS
2) "Conformal coat" the small resistors, etc. around the core
3) Apply LiquidMetal to the core
4) Re-install IHS (with glue to keep it on)

Since this would ensure almost perfect thermal conductivity from the core to the IHS, the IHS would actually work to spread the heat. Then, once you've got a pure copper heatsink, put the liquid metal on top of the IHS (between the CPU and the heatsink) and you would have almost perfect heat transfer.

My next plan would be to apply the liquid metal between the copper plates on my TEC. The key to an efficient TEC is efficient heat transfer from the peltier to the hot plate, and efficient heat transfer from the CPU to the cold plate, so the liquid metal could work wonders in the extreme thermal environment that a peltier produces.

Cool, thanks for the information. I also did happen to find a review where the guy did what I just asked here: http://www.futuremark.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3753

If I have any extra money at some point, I will definately have to pick some of this stuff up.

Sounds like a cool idea, but this is electro-conductive so wouldn't that be bad to have all the transistors in contact with eachother?

Yeah I think it is nickel coated copper or something.

Vegitable oil? Haha. I'd like to hear about that!

that cool lab stuff gives better temps than AS5, but it's like glue so you'll prob end up ruining something if you ever try to take it off...
