Just wanted to hear any feedback/experience from people that had a 23" and went to a 27" or had a 27" and went to a 23"...which did you think was better overall for gaming? and why? too big/small? shape/blurry IQ, etc...
Currently have Samsung 23" 120hz ...have to decide whether I want to replace it with 27" or not. I was going to go to microcenter but the 27" was sold out...so i couldn't buy and compare both monitors side by side.
Note: Both 23" and 27" must be 1080p...same resolution.
I think that 23" is just about the perfect size for gaming. I think that 27" is a bit too big and given that both are at the same resolution of 1080p that the slightly smaller 23" is going to have a crisper and sharper looking picture.
For what it's worth, I'm on a 1920x1200 that is 24" so that's very comparable to the 23" 1080p you're on.
so if you think 23" is fine for gaming...are you saying 27" is still better for gaming?
thanks for the comments guys - any other feedback would be great from people that have made or tried the switch.

I'm curious about this as well.. I have a 27" right now, and I really like it, but I've been looking into 120hz monitors, like the 24" BenQ or the 23" Samsung. I'm just slightly worried that I'll regret the downgrade in size, but then I've also heard that 23-24" at 1080p is much sharper. Also, it seems like with that size, more of the game you're playing would be in the center of your vision, but then again I guess that depends on the distance you sit from the screen.
Oh and by the way, I don't suppose, if you do get the 27", you'd be interested in selling your 23"?
To be completely honest, I didn't see much of a difference at all. 27" 1080 still looks perfectly crisp to me, my only complaint is the two of them take up my entire desk
27" is really massive, but I don't regret getting them. Next time, way down the road when these crap out, I will probably go back to something smaller
I have both a 24'' (1920x1200) and a 27'' (1920x1200). They are not connected to the same rig but separate rigs.
I do a fair amount of gaming with each monitor. My experience is the 27'' is better in the sense that the extra 3'' diagonal screen estate makes gaming more immersive (FPS and auto/flying simulation). A less crisp picture due to a larger pixel pitch of the 27'' does not make a practical impact as my eyes cannot tell the difference while gaming. But I have not frozen an identical image on the two screens and compare the static images side by side.
Though I prefer the 27'', I still think 24'' is also a good size. It is not a case of good vs bad but better vs good.
I have a friend who made the switch from 23 to 27 inch, both at 1080p, he says its too big a screen for that resolution and I agree, it just looks worse (and I personally think its too big altogether, though he likes the size, just a higher res would be better).

yeah the IQ on the 27" samsung is actually quite good...better than many other 27" 1080p monitors, which can be a little blurry.
i do want the game to be immersive...ill have to do a side by side myself...

I went 21" to 27" Samsung LED. This thing is blowing my mind. Seeing things I never did before. Looks gorgeous. And, yes, I primarily game and still love it beyond words.
I went from 24 to 27. I think the 24 was better for gaming. But the 27 is nice when im watching movies in my bed. The 27 felt too big to game on when I first got it, but I guess im used to it now.
I went to a 27" from 23" and would never go back. More stuff fits on screen, what's not to love about that? I sit the same distance from my monitor as I used to sit to the 23" and I find I get less eye strain than I used to, because I can see things clearly enough in my vision's periphery that it's ok to just focus on the centre of the screen, whereas with a smaller monitor my eyes would be moving to all four corners of the screen constantly trying to cover it all because I couldn't see things. If you like to max out the resolution, then chances are you will be happier with a larger monitor, but keep in mind my opinion is one of a person who didn't need any side-by-side comparison to know he'd love the 27" better and still doesn't need one to know if someone offered me a 30" I'd be all over it
That's a bit awkward to actually do. You'd have to be awkwardly close to the monitor, not to mention having issues with having enough room for KB+M if you don't have a large keyboard / mouse tray or a good monitor stand.
I went from 23 -> 27 -> 30. Personally, I think 27 or 30 is the best for anything other than gaming. You can side by side with no horizontal scrolling and it is just a very nice experience.
30 is huge, so for playing games you need to back up from the screen a bit more than usual or not be bothers by having to turn your head a little bit. I think either 23 or 27 would be the best for gaming. I'd pick 23 if it was very competitive and you wanted absolutely no disadvantage from your monitor size, or the 27 if you wanted to still be competitive, but have the chance of maybe miss an enemy in some rare instances. IMO the bigger monitors give a more lush and involving experience though... like your actually in the game instead of watching it on a screen.
Edit: And just if anyone was wondering I will never, EVER get a smaller monitor. Once I got this bad boy nothing could persuade me.
yeah... but we are comparing 'experiences' and not desktop space or resolution...
As the monitor gets bigger, the pixel density decreases and at 1080p, is it really good for gaming?
The only reason why I swapped to 27'' was because it was 3D.
Other than that, 23'' is plenty enough for all your need.
27'' is just bigger.
Does the 23'' does the job ?
Yes.
Does the 27'' does the job ?
Yes.
It's only depending on your money, if you feel like you would like bigger and can afford it, I recommand it.
27'' is not too big, it's the maximum I'd buy for a monitor (I used my 32'' tv as monitor and I can say it's too big).
I started with a 32in 720P TV as my monitor and I switched to a 27in Asus 1080P monitor and it was absolutely an amazing change! It is perfectly clear and looks fantastic for gaming and editing photos. I couldn't be happier with it! Now I want 2 more for surround!
