just curious if someone can help me out with this. what i want to do is get some sort of enclosure that can hold about 5 hard drives that can be removed very easy if i need to take them somewhere. i want the enclosure to then hook up to my computer in some way so i can access all the hard drives. maybe usb or something. any help would be greatful

Hot pluggable SATA enclosure and RAID 5 SATA hot pluggable connector? Most new high end Mobos have hot plug SATA raid chips.

Other than that...Get a good old PCI SCSI RAID controller and an external SCSI box.

May I ask what you are trying to achieve???

Why not buy 5 USB external enclosures, put drives in them, and stack them? Then you can hot plug whichever one you want when you need to?

Sure. Speed will start to suffer if you are accessing too many drives at once. That's the only downfall.
