Should I mod a G5 case or get an M8?

Hello everyone,

I am in a bit of a dilemma with regard to my next build. I have a dead Power Mac G5 and was planning to gut the case and install some top-end components in it (R4Extreme, i7 3930K, GTX 580). However, things have become a little more complex because I want to water cool.

I am now planning on buying a Case Labs Pedestal, installing rad, pump, res etc. in it, and connecting it up to my G5 case's components. However, I am not sure how good this will look or whether it defeats the point of the G5 case, full stop.

On Case Labs' site, I saw the M8 which would be good because (unlike the TH10) it will just fit under my desk (my room's pretty small).

So the basic question I pitch to you is: for such an "ultimate" build, should I be using an M8 or the G5 case? Style or substance?

Any and all feedback would be much appreciated - this is a really tough decision for me.

Thanks.

Well well well.
With what you plan to put in it, a G5 should be enough, but I'd still have to say go with the M8.
I recon the M8 will just make you more happy in the long run. Also because it'll be way easier for you to upgrade in the future.

But on the other hand, my judgement is clouded due to my absolute hatred to all Mac Stationary Cases. ^^

That's the issue for me. I really like the look and the compact nature of the Apple case. The things that make it a problem for me are:

1. Lack of cable management
2. Lack of space in which to WC
3. The motherboard is mounted upside down (the RoG logo looks ridiculous the wrong way round)

Other opinions welcome.

THE G5 IS A CRAP CASE!!!! While it may look beautiful on the outside, inside it is a hell hole. I got a G5 case of of CraigsList and after fully gutting it and looking at other peoples build logs of their modded G5's, I left my G5 case on the street corner to rust. Not only does it consume a massive amount of time to mod but the end product will still be pretty bad. With high end components like that just get a high end case designed for the monster your planning on putting inside the G5. Yes, I too LOVE the look of the G5 but with what you have planned, yes the watercooling rack will defeat the purpose of the simplicity of the G5 case and like I said, just buy a simple high end case like the Corsair 800D. Its a very serious and minimalistically designed case which I love. If I had the money I'd get it, but seeing as I only got $150 for Christmas I bought a white NZXT Phantom.
Just my personal opinion and experience to change your mind.
