If you made a thread on that issue, I think I read it. Cooling my mosfets might be hard due to the size of the Phanteks hsf I have. That thing covers ram and mosfets, too. Although I will check when I get home to make sure.

I only noticed the weird down-clock only when I increased cpuV to something greater than 1.4 using Overdrive. I've had temps at 60 and a bit over (~65) during prime so far and no throttle down occurs then.

Side note: writing my thesis and all I want to do is go home and work on hot-rodding my computer. rolleyes.gif

Hey I jsut stumbled upon this thread and I also have the fatal1ty board and an 8120 and I can not run prime stable with any voltages over 1.4volts. I can boot into windows with up to 1.52volts at 4.8ghz but soon as I start prime over 1.4volts it insta freezes! I am no noob to overclocking and this thing is giving me the run around. Not sure if it is the board or my cpu. I just got the cpu a week ago. The most stable LLC for me is 25% because it has the least fluctuation at this setting. I am stbale right now at 4.305ghz which is 210x20.5 with 1.400 Vcore (goes to 1.408v under load) if I set vcore in bios to 1.4125 (next step up) prime will lock up instantly. so frustrating!

Same here, Prime give up on me same as 3dmark 11... at last Physics test always FAIL.
I was able to clock up to 5Ghz and find out that this CPU most stable at 4.8Ghz under 1.46v, it's runs without any issues except Benching/stress testing.
I've never see blue screen, no freezing and so ever, my comp takes everything and works 24/7 for games (BF3/Crysis/Crysis2/Skirim/CoH/.....), downloads/torrents, rendering and 3D processing(which I do a lot), music re-mastering(my main occupation), home server.... and most demanding IPTV HOST all this happens very often at the same time..... no problem until I use benching frown.gif
Here is my settings screenshot.

Thank you for posting your settings! I noticed your cpu/nb voltage is way less then mine! I have mine at 1.38v and that's the lowest I've gone thinking I needed that much. Granted my NB is 2420mhz or somewhere near that but I am going to try to lower my cpu/nb. So I haven't really tested my pc out at 4.8ghz plus. I've booted no problems at that speed but prime freezes instantly! I'm getting pile driver so who needs stability right? Haha also noticed u have spread spectrum on auto? I always disable this but ill give that a shot as well. That's about the only differences. I have better stability with c6 enabled and c1e I believe.

Hello, I was referred here from another bulldozer forum and I would definetely like to learn how to safely overclock my 8120. I really wanted the 4170 but it isnt released yet,so whichever is released first (4170 quad 125 watt---8170 octa 125 watt) I may get one to see how they perform and keep the better one and give the other one to my old ladys rig. If this 8120 overclocks just as good then It's staying put though lol. I almost bought the 8150 but the reviewers on Newegg kept saying that this one is dang near equal and a much better value! Oh btw, my fatality bios looks different than yours *(i'm running the 1.50) How do I get that black screen? or can I? Thanks

About "Black Theme" it's right at the first screen in BIOS/Home page at the buttom, see UEFI style..... and choose Fatality2, after reboot you'll get "Black Theme"

Thanks a lot, lol I looked right past it! Just been overclocking and found a pretty good setup, so far VERY stable at 4 gig (not a big O.C. but smooth) Do you have any new info on OC'ing the 8120? thanks

Well to be honest this Chip FX 81XX does best when it's clocks over 4.5Ghz, but I'm talking about games and Video rendering.
If you just use for web-browsing and some light tasks like Word.... don't bother keep your present settings at 4Ghz.

It's all about voltage and cooling..... and cooling is most important for this chip.
make sure that before overclock you install some 6 cooper pipe or H80/H100.... otherwise you screwed.

If it's all from above is fine try settings that I provide at the first post.... it's a complex set up which works for many users.
this board wont scale well with FSB over 220... I use 215 ..... voltage from 1.45v and UP
then multiplier from x21 and UP........

Just try it and keep it posted biggrin.gif

I'm currently at 250X19 (no calculator with me its 4.5ghz) with LLC at 50% and vcore at 1.47 but the LLC setting under load drops the voltage to 1.41v and that's what I want. Stays cooler under load and only way that I can keep it stable. At 4.5ghz this thing is plenty fast for my needs. And the needs of 95% of thepeople out there. I have a sapphire hd6850 overclocked and I play saints row III and wife plays skyrim all on high presettings in 1080p and its smooth as butter. Haven't tried ultra tbh but I'm sure it would handle it but sacrifice fps so I stick with high settings. I really am glad I bought an 8120 instead of the 8150 because at the same clocks there is basically no difference. I can not keep it cool above 4.5ghz even with h100 with 4 scythe fans (135cfm each) in push/pull. I too might buy the 8170 but we shall see when the reviews come out for it

I know the H100 radiator is pretty weak but have you tried different fans? You have to remember with radiators/heatsinks it's about the static pressure, not just the airflow.
