ASRock 990FX Fatal1ty overclock settings - Page 4

I have a pretty good balance of incoming/outgoing air in my HafX case. 230mm front is an inlet, 200mm side is an inlet, the 120mm scythe fans are push/pull cool air through the radiator out of the case, and the 140mm exhaust fan on back is blowing out (naturally) also within the case I have the 2 factory h100 fans setup to help move the inlet air through the case. Even at 4ghz with only 1.35vcore when I run cinebench the socket temp goes to 51c and the core temp is somewhere around 39-41c and that is just with one run. if I run cinebench say 3 times back to back it will climb the core temp to 48c. I just have a cpu with high leakage but its all good. still love my 8120 and not dissatisfied with my purchase one bit.

I hate to break it to you guys who own this board, but your problems are probably just a design flaw from ASRock. While it is gorgeous and full of features, it really is a poor overclocker for the $.

Sounds like it is either a good CPU or because you're under water. The board is not as good of overclocker, and that's that. There was a supposed firmware fix, but I never saw it.

Sure, it can handle the volts, and it is better than my crappy board, but not only is it beat in its price segment by the sabertooth, I am pretty sure all Gigabyte's 8+2's OC the same, as in, better than the ASRock in question. I think ASRock's own 990FX Extreme4 is better, although that is just a hunch from reading reviews and was never scientifically tested.

I'm really starting to wonder if its my board that won't let me get past 4.4ghz stable. I can surf web and play games at 4.5ghz but prime 95 instantly freezes on me. I'm really really so close to getting a full custom water loop for my build. I think that my vrms overheat (or over volt) and cause the freeze. My LLC is different from others I've seen. Disabled it goes from 1.3875 to 1.43ish, 25% it makes voltage rock stable to what bios is set to, 50% I get vdroop from 1.45v to 1.408v, 75% is even more vdroop and 100% the bottom drops out from underneath itcrazy vdroop. This board did have my phenom II at 4.309ghz and that was fantastic for what it was and that was with 1.5vcore so come to think of it maybe it is my dang cpu blah!

It could be the board. I've heard people mention vrms overheating. But I can't understand how or why seeing how the board has those beastly heatsinks. I never paid attention to vrm temps on my board though so I wouldn't know for sure.

Computer parts, did you sell your BD rig?

Unfortunately I ended up selling it to fund other projects. Not that I wanted to, but I came to realize that I would probably never even use 50% of what that setup is capable of in my back up rig. I'll keep the 2500k in my main rig, then buy PD when it releases and do another benchmark comparison like I did with the BD. Or if funds permit, then I'll do a 3 way benchmark comparison between IB, PD, and SB.

Hello everyone and Thanks again to Kolovrat for hooking me up with this thread. i Have had numerous BSOD's since I reinstalled win 7 64.They were "memory management","attempting to write on read only memory", and "system service exception". I also have been seeing the dreaded "blah blah has stopped working".Then after I reinstalled win 7 and enabled ACHI I got an error 1335 when trying to install Nero and Lightscribe software, something about a missing or corrupt cab file. The weird thing is, before I reinstalled windows 7 the first time, I hadn't had any problems like this. I only reinstalled it due to the drive "c" saying it was corrupt and constantly checking it for consistency on every restart. I have downloaded and installed both bulldozer hotfixes from windows. On last night's reinstallation, I did enable AHCI on my ssd. I will list my hardware and screenshots for everything with this post so maybe someone will know what the heck is going on lol. Oh one more thing, my windows update has acted wierd as well, sometimes saying "never" as the last check for updates but also says windows is up to date? wierd? Thanks guys either way. Hopefully, its my BIOS or something fixable causing this.


I run the Asrock 990fx,AMD fx-8120,Zalman 9900MAX cpu cooler,Corsair Force 60 S.S.D.,W.D. 750 gig sata 3 storage drive,Seagate Barracuda 160 gig sata 3 Gaming storage drive,AMD 6870 card, O.C.Z. 550 watt power supply, Aerocool strike-x s.t. case, Asus blu-ray and dvd burners w/lightscribe, G.Skill Ripjaws-X 1600 memory (2X4gig),Windows 7 64 bit, and a Strike-X L.C.D. Fan and temp. controller panel. I also have fans galore including a 120mm behind the mobo for extra cooling. Thanks!!
