Brown liquid stains on brand new 1090t

Thread Starter
I just got a brand new AMD Phenom II X6 1090t. Without even opening the box, I could see dried brown liquid on the cpu which I thought was on the outer plastic packaging. I went home to find that this brown **** is on the actual surface of the CPU and will not come off even when using rubbing alcohol. It looks like dried up coffee stains.

It doesn't seem to affect the O.C. as I am able to get 4.1 Ghz with 1.45vcore (only tested 1 hour P95), but then again I am not sure.

What do you guys think; keep it, or return it?

Man! I have it seated so perfectly with the perfect amount of AS5 with the perfect amount of pressure from the heatsink plate screws. I was hoping one of you could tell if it is a sub-standard chip, but it seems to overclock okay.

It looks like a 3-4 drops of coffee were spilled on the CPU surface. The drops are n no bigger than 3mm in diameter

In any case, I'll post some pictures when I get home from work.

Oh, dont worry about it then!

If your really concerned, when you yank it out next try rubbing it with some alcohol. or take some 3200 grit wet sand paper and rub it lightly. (not 100% on this, but it may void the warranty, so on 2nd thought, maybe not smile.gif

If you read my OP, I say that rubbing alcohol doesn't remove the stain. I was thinking about lapping my 1090t (which will remove the stains + lower my temperatures), but am hesitant to because I don't want to decrease the resell value. TBH, I think lapped CPUs should sell for more than their unlapped counterparts, but for some reason I feel that they don't.

I wouldn't worry about it, most likely something that didn't clean off all the way in the manufacturing process.
i would think lapping it would be the best way to go if you are thinking about keeping the cpu

1. itll get rid of the stains

2. itll lower your temps
return it. I personally wouldnt want brown crap stains on my CPU. the title was funny. tongue.gif on second thoughts, looking at your vcore, that is pretty damn low for a 4.1ghz OC. that is a really nice chip. Keep it tongue.gif

That was my thought as well. My main concern is when I try to sell this puppy a couple years from now. Let's face it: most people would want to pay less for it because of the stains.

I have lapped my heatsink, so what you suggest did cross my mind. But, then again, my main concern is when I try to sell this in the future. Even though we at OCN believe a lapped CPU should sell for more money than a regular one, most people would not want to buy a lapped CPU (I assume).
