I have a 2011 13" MB Pro. I love it. It's fully loaded other than an SSD. I swapped out the original HD for a WD Scorpio Black. Purchased my own 8GB of ram too since it was only $35.

I mainly use it for Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, Steam Games, Virtual Machines (Have Windows 7 Ult, CentOS for Aruba Airwave, Server 2008 for Cisco WCS), movies, Skype, Webex, ect.

The VM's are for work related stuff. They are not on all the time, and it's only 1 at a time.

They only thing I do different with my Sig Rig is Gaming. I don't really like mobile gaming anyways. Especially a gaming laptop with no real room for GPU replacement.

I have been really happy with it.

As a long time linux user and apple hater:
Dont get a MAC!!!!!!!! believe me, each linux distro is different, and there is probably one perfect for you. have you tried: Ubuntu, fedora, arch, crunchbang, mint, puppy, lubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, edubuntu,...
do a quick google search for those names, just look at some screenshots. i bet a least one them looks interesting. just don't get a mac. if you do linux you can duel boot with windows easily to play games you can't on linux (which has been going down recently ). Also with linux you can actually get a computer at a reasonable price and you can choose an OS that fits your needs perfectly. believe me, don't get a mac. sorry for all the apple fans, but my opinions are based off of experience and perhaps you guys just had a better experience.

You sound very unbiased with a great deal of even-handed qualification for both sides.

You can install Windows on a Mac so I see no reason installing your store bought iOS on a Windows machine.

Don't. Plus, the alu unibody is actually pretty heavy. I lifted a Mac book air and it's a lot heavier than it looks.

I'll just add a bit to this - completely agree the Macbooks are a lot heavier than they should be, haven't touch a MBA 13 yet though. I got a Toshiba Portege R835 yesterday, and boy that is LIGHT! It weighs 3.2 pounds (magnesium alloy body, a bit better than Aluminum), 8 hours battery (roughly - it has a 60W battery and I use 8W of power when using internet and screen at ~30%). Very smooth touchpad, and the keyboard is nice as well. How a Macbook Pro can be "worth" $400 over this, when the R835 weighs just 0.4 pounds over a MBA 13 with much higher performance, same battery life AND a DVD-RW drive... is beyond me.
