Piledriver will still be 32nm but I dont see that as an issue as long as they can innovate and improve things.

AM3+ is nothing new, nor was BD originally designed for it. It's the same old socket for 5 years now.

New socket, please, AMD.

775 was used for the better part of a decade. we don't need a new socket, just a new cpu.
775 started with pentium 4, and ended with core 2. A lot of improvements can be made without changing sockets.
Though you wouldn't know it looking at how intel acts today, launching a new socket every year...

AMD should outsource it's production to Intel?
Use a GPU as a CPU?
7970 is a disappointment?
2500k doesn't have 8 cores so I'll buy a BD?

But the best one of all:

Now that AMD is stepping back, intel has spent a lot of money on R&D when they did not need to, essentially meaning a less valuable investment on Intels part. Undoubtedly, Intel will still innovate, but not nearly as fast as what they used to. This will allow Intel to "cool off" and later opening up opportunity for AMD to come back.

2500k doesn't have 8 cores. So I would definetely go with FX anyway.
They're still doing great job, and that is all that matters.

Proof FX Processors are selling fast right here.... A guy with 5 posts comes in and says the 8 core is better, its better. Period. smile.gif But seriously, I am getting one eventually. I already have the am3+ 990fx mobo and a weak little phenom II 840 which I know the 8120 will be an upgrade. The thing we are saying is that we do not NEED you guys to constantly point out that there are "better" options out there. WHO CARES??? We have made a decision now let us compute with our new computer cpu processor in PEace...

The Intel fanboys that complain about AMD being sucky or whatever have no concept of this.. You should want as many companies competing as possible.

Are you saying Intel is going to produce the next Windows ME???? 46

Partially true, while socket remains the same, chipset is not. Thus for many people during that time you still need a new motherboard.

Fixed. thumb.gif

but on a serious note, everyone can relax. i can guarantee intel wont raise their prices any higher than they currently are. one reason being, for the simple fact that intel does not need the DOJ any further up their butt than their already are.

With the amount of fanboyism and misinformation in the AMD forums we do need to point out how Intel CPUs are consistently better products.

They're still doing great job, and that is all that matters.

More cores doesn't matter, multithreaded performance is what matters and the 2500k does just as well or better in most scenarios with even half the cores.

whats the point of having all those cores if only a handful of apps even use them properly. even then, how many of those FX users are using those apps on a daily basis?

oh amd might need lightpeak to acheive that or a completely new way to trnasfer data but gpu can do both!
No gpu's are for highly optimized procedural workloads and also for a degree of parallel processing. A gpu can not replace a CPU at this point in time, if ever, Even simple programs would become highly complex to be compatible, and all current programs would be next to useless. If you want moar cores like a gpu then go get a 4p opteron board and and use it as a workstation.
