Still plan on running Win7 as i can use it for some workstation items like ripping dvd and blurays

Cool, I was asking because you mentioned ripping movies.. Blue-ray discs even when stripped out extras take up quiet a bit of space. I am not sure the capacity of that case but you will find youself expanding/adding drives faster than you think.

don't go bleeding edge capacity as there wont be any longevity guarantee. Let other people test those units and go with something that's already good a solid reputation.

thats why i wanted to go with samsung 2tb drives...never had a problem...but 4x2tb uning onboard raid give me of 8tb...which should be enough for now, because i'm using 4tb now...but i would love 6x2tb which would give me 12 tb but would require a raid card...

If 4 x 2TB gave you 8TB of available storage space, then you seem to be running RAID 0 or JBOD. You won't have any drive redundancy which is what I believe you were going for.

12tb will last a bit depends on how many BD you plan to rip right away. I am currently at 12.7 and tapped out. Waiting on a part so i can expand. it is hard to really decide on which drives to go with. I went with the hitachi drives as they are the best bet for consumer grade drives running hardware raid.

I wish i could have stepped up to 3 or 4tb disks but the prices are still a little higher than i want them to be so i continued with 2tb drives.
