Seriously though, I agree. People touting that their OC'd or unlocked 465s, or 470s are almost as good as a 7970 are absolutely delusional. On a few select benchmarks where AMD has never done well and Nvidia does exceptionally well you might be an OC'd 470 to get up close to a 7970, but only in those handful of cases, everywhere else the 7970 blows it away. Even the 580 is generally 15-30% behind the 7970.
I've never understood fanboyism, like people defending Nvidia or AMD, as if there is a need to defend a hardware manufacturer just because you own one of their products. Be honest with yourself and buy whatever is the best bang for the buck at the time you would like to upgrade, regardless of the manufacturer. Every hardware manufacturer has issues from time to time, Intel's P4s were garbage, AMD's Bulldozer is a complete waste of money considering its competition, Nvidia's fermi was very late to the party and was highly inefficient and Nvidia's 2 years of product renames and rebadges was very annoying (e.g. 8800GTS 512->9800GTX->9800GTX+->GTS250), AMD's had driver problems in the past, a myriad of underperforming cards scattered throughout the last 10 years, and CF stuttering issues. So, please do yourself and everyone else a favor and admit when a great product is great, or when a shoddy product is shoddy, regardless of what company is making it.

This

I think the 7970 is going to be a great product coming from someone that has a GTX 580 thumb.gif

I'm reading through this thread and to be blunt many of you are simply delusional!

The problem with news sites is that they are quite simply there own worst enemy's providing technically the "correct" info but only correct to a certain person. That NOT being your average Joe customer.

An example would by a news article recently posted saying that the 7970 will be $475 rather than $550.

Excellent news I hear you all cheer!

Well... They are usually correct in saying pricing is "X" however that pricing is the price that HIS, Asus etc sell the cards at into distribution. Once the Dist has added there 1-2% and sold to an etailer the etailer makes their margin. On a new release like this that pushes pricing up from $475 to $550-600 so the previous estimate is actually going to be the correct one. Add to this adding VAT or TAX (depending on where you live) and you have a card that once again is where the original rumors were at $650-750 or possibly even more.

That's £450 to £500 inclusive if you in the UK.

Or you guys can stop wasting ur money upgrading pointlessly when there is really nothing two gtx480's couldnt run maxed out. Unless you have a 2500x1600 monitor or multi-screen then you should just move on. Go SSD's or gtx480's. 100avg Ultra gaming in BF3 is incredibly sexy and to know I only spent $450 to achieve it makes the rest of you look like sheep who just go with what is new and shiny. Kinda like Apple products ;p

No offense but your post makes you sound jealous that you can't afford the newest and the best. If you are truly happy with your 480's then there is no reason to post in this thread at all....

I like new and shiny. I'm in the market for a new computer. I was originally going to get a 6970/570, but now I'm actually considering a 7950/7970. Any of the above choices will be a much better card than what I have now. This will be my last upgrade for atleast 2 years, and if I go with the 7k series, I have the option to CF (prefer single card though....i hate microstutter)

OT: When do these 7970 and the 7950 go on sale again?

I personally love how when someone says something along these lines it is always a Nvidia product they saw any of us need... now that AMD has grabbed the performance crown and will run with for a while, statements like this always pop up....But that is alright, just close your eyes and let the butthurt flow through you my young jedi apprentice....

Two 480s will often be slower than a 7970, and use a lot more power. I'd pay $100 more to skip over 480s for a 7970. Then again, I'll likely be getting 7870s or something in that price range.
