I don't know what you read into that but there was no comparison to a Ferrari. He's talking about budgets, and Ferrari's are expensive. Oh and by the way, the same way you feel about a Ferrari I feel about a top notch graphics card, as do many I imagine.
What comparison is that? It's pretty straight forward: buy what you can afford and stop complaining because the latest top of the line GPU isn't in your budget anymore.

Never use Ferrari and video card in the same sentence. A video card is a engineering turd compared to the engineering mastery, hand made detailed art form that comprises a Ferrari.

Bad comparison is bad.

As far as budget, it's never wise to over pay for something. That's why some things just don't sell, because it's overpriced and no one, even those who "could afford one" wouldn't buy into.

Welcome to the real world, where smart savvy consumers don't over pay for something just because it's new. rolleyessmileyanim.gif

Is there any point arguing with these guys, they have "nvidia fanboy" in their sigs and/or "nvidia green machine". Even if 7970 were 100x faster than gtx 580 they would still be stubborn brand loyalists wink.gif Not that there's anything wrong with that thumb.gif I'm the same way about asus. Asus mobos are the best!

I don't particularly like Nvidia. I will own a 7900 series card, but it will probably be their mid-range or gtx570 equivalent.

First off there is no reason to argue against another persons opinion so long as it's based on real factual information anyways.

Secondly my reasoning has nothing to do with brand, I never said anything about drivers, color, or proprietary software...

I won't buy a 7970, it's a pretty weak next gen card and the 7950 will be even weaker. I'm waiting to see if Nvidia can really put 1000 cuda cores on their card, if they can it's going to be pretty crazy.

I'm not expecting 7 series to last the entire year, AMD is going to fresh before the 4th quarter most likely.

You acknowledged a long time ago that you are an Nvidia and Intel fan boy.

I only ever said I was a price/performance fanboy.

However even if I was a huge nvidia fanboy that still wouldn't change the fact that my opinion isn't wrapped in fanboy logic.

You guys know that you are arguing for a piece of hardware that you'll be selling 2nd hand next year right?

It's amazing to see the mindset of some people...

And, for some reason, people tend to understand "enthusiast" as "capitalism" ...

I'm an enthusiast but not a capitalist ... being a enthusiast is not about having the latest hardware, but knowing everything about your hardware, how to get all the performance from it... tweaking it...

I hardly call someone fanboy just because they have the latest hardware in town. What's enthusiast about having money to buy every high end part out there if you don't value them or know what to do with it?

So, someone that doesn't have the budget to get the latest & greatest hardware is not a enthusiast? Jesus ... ( and i'm not even religious but ... )

Oh... and by the way, the best "enthusiastic" people i met , were guys that had mainstream cpu's ... or 2-3 years high end cpu's that were still tweaking and tuning and had such a love for their machines and their work ... those are true enthusiastic users ... not someone that says that he must get the most expensive hardware so no one in his street has it and that way he feels like a true enthusiast ... that's just bs.

( Btw, you can still be a enthusiast and get the latest hardware ... but it's not what happens for 90% of the users who call themselves enthusiasts ... usually they are just users that what to be seen as the guy who has this amazing spec'ed system and people will remember them for that ... not has being the guy that got the latest & greatest and did an amazing job optimizing the system and can help everyone with technical problems ... blablabla )

Now, OT ... 7970 are true beasts and i think it's a great "next gen" ( love the next gen tag ... but if you think about it ... next gen will only last about 1 year ... ) AMD card ... the tesselation performance went sky high and it's a fun card to tweak for what i read.

Stay away from AMD until they get their driver department in order. In the end that's all that matters. As is they DON'T deserve your money. Their QC is garbage.
