That seems really odd then. Even my Evo 3D didn't ever have 70% screen usage. I got the LTE version so I will let you know how mine does tomorrow after a day of use with 4G.

you're forgetting that the AMOLED screen uses more power when not displaying black/dark colours, not to mention that the panel is also larger/more pixels hence more power is used compared to a WVGA/800x480 panel

Edit: My battery life was pretty horrible today; not going to lie
However its only been the battery's cycle so I'm hopeful for improvements in a week or so's time

Strange. The battery on my 2x usually lasts me through two days.

The main difference being that power has to go to a backlight AND a TFT layer which is why OLED is considered more power efficient. Since I haven't had a full day of use yet, I will post back tomorrow night. My Evo 3d is sitting at 38% screen use with wifi coming in second at 16%. DOUBLE energy use of the Evo just seems wrong. At the moment my GNex shows 51% screen but it's only been on about 5 hours since I got it and not much wifi use like the evo, but for being on 5 hours and me playing with it constantly, it still seems to be doing better than OPs on screen power drain.

I know; but you still haven't regarded the fact that you have more pixels and a more power hungry panel because its simply larger!

I know how AMOLED works; which is why having dark/black is generally more efficient than normal LCD
theres also a post explaining my point above (larger panel=more battery used) on XDA; if I find it again I'll link it here

You can either turn off most of the features of having a smart phone to try and squeeze more life, which kinda kills the point of having the device...or get an extended battery.

Yea it makes your sleek phone "clunkier"...OTOH your phone is probably living inside a clunky case to begin with anyway.

I run a 2600mAh battery on my EVO 4G, which when combined with Cyanogenmod and Tiamat's kernel....means I can leave all the data polling services I want on, normally browse Tapatalk, use Opera Mobile, use GPS for positioning on Weatherbug Elite. Polling services set to 1hour updates...and go ~60hours on a charge of regular usage (as in not going out of my way to prolong battery life). Straight usage I get maybe ~18hrs on a charge nonstop.

hmm, thanks for the battery guide, scanned through it, but not really in the mood for a serious read right now, its christmas man! lol

maybe i'll read it at work a few days later LOL

I'll also update you guys on a real battery breakdown chart later on, when I have the time to run it for hours and not do anything else.

I *might* buy an extended battery later on, but before that I need to get myself a matte screen protector. I went to the place in town that will most likely has it for sell today(so if that place doesn't have it nowhere else will), and them shopkeepers give me the who cares look, just cuz everyone else were buying phones and I was asking for a screen protector.

I'm still pretty mad.

I understand that too but most normal images on identical panels will use less power on identical screens between AMOLED and LCD however if you stare at a white screen of course the AMOLED will consume more power. And yea, the panel is bigger but not by a whole lot since the Evo 3D is 960x540. But using DOUBLE the power just seems kinda ridiculous unless, like I stated you were looking at white screens for long periods of time, which is possible if you browse simple web pages a lot. Without really knowing the OPs usage, it would be hard to say but I was just trying to say that 71% of power used for screen on an android phone seems like a lot, but maybe it's just me.

Well, my girlfriends Evo 3D is pushing 71% screen use too. Must be the rom/settings I have on the evo 3d then that make my phone last longer. We have different ROMs. I can go 2-3 days without charging and moderate use. I wonder if the GNex will be the same for me. I do know that when I first got my Evo 3D it died pretty quick with the stock rom but somehow now it lasts forever.

But yea, I'll post back with my usage throughout the day as I play with my my new toy to let you know what my battery is looking like.
