He also won't have to deal with tesselated objects underneath the gameworld now that nvidia is worse there. Yeah I don't think we'll be seeing any unnecessary tesselation at all until Kepler at least rolleyes.gif

I don't think that the owners of HD6950/6970 will be upgrading.. Especially who has a crossfire set up already! I think people that run older ATI cards will want this but i don't see the point in spending $550 if you have HD6900 series setup already.. or GTX 580...

I think i will just get another HD6850 when the price will go down and that's it for me.. It will perform close to HD7970 just that it will use more power.. Unless HD7850 is something really nice and will come cheap thumb.gifthumb.gif

To you, and others saying that Nvidia needs to come out with their stuff:
1) Nvidia's crap (Crap as in stuff, not crap as in bad) will be just as expensive if not more, as it always has been.
2) Nvidia's competition is not supposed to come till later into 2012 IIRC
3) ...i can't really think of a third reason...damn....

Eh...

It's just that just because the 7970 beats a 580 shouldn't make it this expensive, hell the 5870 with low supply and no competition was much cheaper. I even bought 2, and I'd never buy 2 of these at 550€ each...

And no, I don't think a 780 will be cheaper but I'm hoping that it'll drive the prices at least a bit lower. If the rumors about 1024 cuda cores for the 780 are true I don't see a 7970 really coming close to that, which would give Nvidia the position to set the price of single GPUs.

Now of course we could see high end single GPU cards going for 500$-800$ this gen but I hope not tongue.gif

Frankly, if the GTX 580 is going to stay the same price and AMD releases a more powerful card they have every right to charge the same/extra. I would completely expect them to. Though you are right, when the 780 comes out, it might finally have competition and reduce price. But until then, this is all that can be expected.
