Thread Starter
sup fellas, i'm new to this site, and after researching a bunch of cool stuff on this site, i decided to join. my main concern is overclocking my 6800gt for better performance, while being safe.
but, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO OVERCLOCK ANYTHING! sry 4 caps.
if you guys could give me a little help i'd be a happy camper.
if knew anything about overclocking, i wouldn't bother you dudes, but i am clueless.
thanks in advance,
-akc

Hello I can help out as I had a PNY 6800GT not to long ago. While I search for the links to help you do us a favor and fill in your system specs. At the top of the page you need to click User CP

Unlock and Overclock:
The GT can't unlock but it will OC verywell with good cooling and sone good thermal paste.

This one is a bit more advance but will yeild higher result, but if you dont aftermarket cooling then raise the vcore at your own risk.

This one gives you more links to guides.

You wannna OC your 6800... go DL "CoolBits"--> this link http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/V...Bits-Reg.shtml Install it.. And you'll be able to overclock it. right click, nVidia display, click on monitor, then itll bring up a controll panel for your card.. goto "Core clock frequencies" and SLOWLY bring it up.. 5-10MHz at a time fore core.. i dont know about the memory. and when done just go in a game and see if it "Artifacts".. if it does, downclock it.. (DONT downclock it below stock settings! lol)

Yup, exactly what Crack@CS:S King mentioned use coolbits. Also you can use rivatuner and check for artifacts using ati tool. Links for all these downloads are in my sig. Make sure you watch your temps .

doing all that MAY require to take some stuff out (PSU). Cooling source is what your PC is being cooled by it will be stock or like my CPU cooler Scythe Ninja+. The brand of video card should be right on the heatsink or fan. Like I said before you may need to take somethings out like your HDD and PSU in orrder to get the actual brand. And I disagree you should be fine up to ~80C as the slowdown threshold is 120C or so.

yeh the threshold is around 120c , so anything below that is techinically fine, but cool as possible is what you want

if you do volt mod it , i would suggest better cooling, or maybe lapping your existing heatsink , apply as5 and a bigger fan will do the job
