Bulldozer Performance Question - Page 2

PT7 is what ever you select it to be in the settings.
With the un-offical patch I ran it with 8/2/1 threads.
8 Thread performance was down on most things but 2 and 1 thread performance went up quite a bit compared to tests ran before hand.

Running linpack on core 0 & 1 im pulling 9Gflop, Running it on core 0 & 3 I pull 17.1Gflop.
Which shows me its clearly faster to run cores 0 & 3 and so on.
AVX may change things up but I dont have anything that supports AMD AVX to test with.

FWIW, Linux kernel 3.1 has the scheduler changes. If I run 4 threads it uses every other core.

Have you tried compiling stuff? Have you tried compiling programs under a Phenom II and then under your FX? Currently, compiling heavy applications (for example, virtualbox-ose) on FreeBSD brought my CPU usage up to 100% at times (not 100% of the time). I want to minimize that hit. I assume the FX would help, but would it be worth it?

Yes compiling is what I built the box for. But I have no direct comparison because I haven't used a Phenom II. Looking at the numbers on openbenchmark you can probably expect 10-20% improvement at stock frequencies and go from there.
All I know is that at 4.5GHz I'm running circles around the dual quadcore Xeons we have at work - 20 to 50% improvement (at close to double the clock frequency) but it may have to do with the disk subsystem too.
