its really not that hard.. just download the nvidia-glx file from the synaptic package manager and you should be good to go unless you have an OLD nvidia card after you install the nvidia drivers.. open up a term and type in

sudo nvidia-glx-config enable

after that its a matter of resetting your Xserver.. alt-ctrl-bksp you should see an nvidia logo pop up letting ya know your all good
if it really isnt that simple for ya.. just post up again and ill see if i can walk ya through it.. i do know that you will need to enable the
restricted respsitory like so
  1. Select the System menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Administration then Synaptic Package Manager. Enter your password when prompted.
  3. In the package manager, select the Settings menu, then Repositories.
  4. In the Software Preferences dialog that comes up, click the Add button.
  5. In the Edit Repository dialog, ensure that the Restricted copyright box is checked, then press OK.
  6. Press OK to close the Software Preferences dialog, when Synaptic asks you to reload the package database, say yes
that is with gnome.. i see you have Xubuntu .. if you have gnome isntalled drop into it and boot from it that way.. if not you will have to edit your respository config file and add the right one too it..

awesome.. i wasnt sure if the Xubuntu had the synaptic package manger like gnome did.. and i couldnt remember the name of the driver.. if it was indeed nvidia-glx then it would of been as simple as enabling the restricted repository and in a term typing

Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx
