Sennheiser - Page 12

thanks for the update. It looks nice... I'd be interested to see the internals of the amp if you could open it w/o voiding the warranty. It should get better as time goes... but honestly I wouldn't expect anything too major. I did a quick search on head-fi and didn't find anyone who could say anything positive about the amp. They all seem to agree with you that it's not worth the money spent on it.
here are some threads:

with that in mind and considering the cost of the LDM+ and the great syngery it has I think you should really give the LDM+ a second look. it has great syngery with the hd595's and from your description of your hd595's unamped and amped I can tell the LDM+ would be better... I remember my reaction when I first got my LDM+... I honestly didn't think the sound could change that much. I was hoping for a bit better in the lower regions, but everything including sound stage picked up. So, it seems like the project box is only about 1/4 the way there and double the price of a LDM+

Those reviews look like they're for the original Head Box..? This is the Head Box II or Mark II (MKII), it's the second version (not "SE") of this particular type of amp. The original Head Box from Pro-Ject was a terrible amp, according to all the reviews I have seen, but the Mark II is (according to reviews/forums I've seen) considered pretty good for the price and a huge improvement over the original. Apparently this amp has different internals compared to the original, a different configuration with different components, or so I've read. I don't have the technical knowledge to tell you what, exactly, has been changed though...

I still think that £80.00 (the equivalent of $150 USD) is expensive for any headphone amp, but then I'm no audiophile .

If I do come across an LDM+ for a decent price in the UK, I'll get one, but I think I'm going to give this amp a chance
first, as so far, it's doing a pretty good job, for me anyway .

EDIT: I don't want to open the amp yet, but here are the specifications. Hopefully they can tell you something about the amp and how it compares to the LDM+? Also, here is forum where a guy tried out the amp and gave his opinion and here are a couple of customer reviews. Not sure if the sources can be trusted, but reviews are scarce for the MKII. Perhaps the MK1 (now called the "SE") was so bad it put people off buy any Head Box version .

Highly-Annoyed

I just got home and my package is at my door. So i open it up As i opened up the box last time I ordered from zipzoomfly.com the reciet was crumpled up on the bottom. The headphones i have to say are AWSOME! and the size of the cups are a bit to small i'm not sure if they provide the isolation i need while in the car with my parents listning to music. And now to the OCZ 2gb usb stick. I plug it in and my xp system doesn't recognize it at all maybe i got a dud i don't know i will try it on vista later.

Sorry to hijack the tread BUT, it just got my Sennheiser EH 150s. O-M-F-G!!! They sound soooo much better than my dad's $100 Sony ones! And I only paid $25 for these from newegg.com. Now all they need is a mic and they are PERFECT!
