ditching the h50, ideas? - Page 3

well after talking it over with the wife(she thinks "it's a really cool idea") thumb.gif and looking over juggalo's guide(very helpful with the basics) i have decided with what i want to accomplish a custom loop is going to be a better bet. however i am completely in the dark on the equipment side of things. most specifically the cpu blocks. i plan on using 1/2" id copper for the plumbing. i'm willing to throw 300-400 at the project for the components. so what do you say, can you guys help me out?

ok so this project got put on the back burner because work has been overwhelming lately. things are slowing down a bit so i have a some spare time to put back into this project. still need help with gathering up necessary components. i will end up cooling the cpu now and adding gpu's when kelper releases so i want to make sure i have proper sizing of rad and pump. i'd like to keep all contents inside case, nothing hanging off the back or anything like that. what do you guys say, can you help me out?

Keeping everything inside with a HAF 932? if you plan to get only one GPU, you could do it with the basic RS240/RX240 rasa kit. and a GPU block. If you plan to get a more power-hungry CPU in the future, or add more than one GPU, you might find some problems with rads. I have the healthy opinion and recommendation to get at least 120mm of rad per device connected to the loop, so a CPU+2 GPU, you should look at 360mm worth of rads, or if you want to keep temps truly low, add an extra 120mm of rad (so, for 2 things you'd still be looking at 360mm of rads, and for three things, at least 480mm)

To achieve that, you have several options:

- Change case. Most full tower, and even some mid towers can be fitted with 2 240mm rads (like my CM 690 II) or even larger rads, and should be only a matter of getting a second rad along with the rasa kit, and full waterblocks for the GPU's.
- Get an extra 120mm rad. Your case could fit a 240mm rad on top and a 120mm on the back. You'd be limited to slim radiators if you want push-pull though, so the RX240 kit is out.
- Mod the case. A dremel, some planning, a free saturday/sunday and some metal mesh could give the extra room to hold a 360mm rad on the top of the case. You could also mod the HDD bay and make it hold only 2 HDD's, then opening a second 120mm hole so the bottom can hold a second 240mm rad.
- Sticking the rad outside. If you manage to do a bit of painting and getting the right tools, it does not look bad at all.

i was wondering if a single 360 would be enough for cpu, and 580sli (or kelper if released by spring time). will definatly look into adding a 120rad also

the 932 supports a 360 at the top without mods to the case

i thought i read that the rx doesnt require p/p fans, only single sided due to the thick design. can someone confirm this?

so if i went with the rx360 kit and added a ex120 would the pump that comes with the rx kit need to be upgraded, or will it be able to handle the flow? how much tubing should i look at getting, what size should i even get? don't even have a clue about fittings. i want to go with comp fittings because of the cleaner look, but no idea what i will need....

1. I'd test first how cool are temps with a 360 rad. It is the least you should get for your setup anyways, but the extra 120mm rad either at the bottom or at the back would help lowering temps, but if you like the temps with a single 360 rad then you have avoided to spend money.
2. You're right, never noticed it. Then you can go with whatever 360 kit you want without issues.
3. Actually, any rad can get push-pull. The only downside is that a thick rad is as thick as a slim one with one fan, so a thick rad with push-pull would take a lot of room most cases do not have. With psh-pull, you could even use slower fans to minimizenoise, or faster to lower temps.

For the fittings, you'd need to get as many as contacts you plan to have (two per GPU if you are not using a SLI bridge, two in the CPU, two in the pump, two in the rad, two in the res), so at least 12 fittings. The thicker the ID of the tubing, the better, most people get 3/8 or 1/2.

never did get answer about if the pump with the rasa kit would be enough for a cpu and dual gpu set-up with rx360 rad to start (possibly add the ex120 if the 360 isn't enough).
thanks
